John 3:1-17 By J. L. Caldwell, Pastor New Jerusalem Baptist Cathedral If we ever expect to receive any spiritual guidance from God. we first must have an encounter w ith Him. This means having an intentional "face to face" with Him at some personal moment. "No man comes to the l ather except by Me" (John 14:6). One can never become a true believer or be saved until he she intentionally encounters Jesus in a voluntary, or involuntary way. Jesus had an intentional encounter and intervened w ith the woman at the well. The Jewish leader. Nicodemus, sought out an intentional, personal encounter with Jesus for Himself at night. The women caught in the very act of adultery, w as involuntary introduced to Jesus, however, the man out of prejudice, was allowed to escape. It doesn't matter how we encounter Christ, it is required of the Father that we do. Such an encounter vv ith Christ will be on-going in that it will and should carry over into our worship services each Sunday (John 4:23). C hurch worship, in a sense, is encountering God each and every Sunday we come before Him. Believers should lake the advantage of this, l or it is out of worship that God hears us and works His blessings and miracles upon us. There would be many, who come to church, but fail, due to distractions, to make the "spiritual connection" necessary to worship God in the way Hu prefers to be worshipped (John 4:23 k Once we have truly encountered C hrist face to face, we will always be able to make the pioper spiritual connection and be able to worship C hrist MWII: whenever vv$ ivish to. at home, in church: =in AVnir car. in public, in private, on the beach, wherever the Holy Spirit dictates. I he Holy Spirit will dictate how we will worship, ami the form it will take during the circumstances (I Corinthians 2: LU When we encounter C heist. I Ie humbles Himsell toward us. Ik ruvuals Ilimsull to puoplu. who duspcrutuly need Him - who .ire broken, legalistic, pridelul. shamed and filled with guilt, lake note as to how our Lord engaged and treated the women lie met at the well. He never gave her the "fifth degree", so to speak, only love and compassion. Jesus knew that it was not the woman s live failed mama-jus and adultery, which were her problems. Again note how our l ord dealt tenderly with the woman caught in the very act of adultery. Both of these women had rendered themselves inferior. Jesus was only interested in lifting them up giving these dear-souls the "living water. " whereby, they will never thirst for sin again (John 4:14). Only I Ie can uncover the hidden things in our hearts and free us from their grip. Jesus i> actively engaging people today. I he question is: I low often do vou vv ish to For encounter Christ? When you are hurting, in trouble only? How would you feel if your friends only engaged and spoke to you when they needed something from you? How many of you have had the experience of meeting Jesus face to face in private and allowed Him to engage you about the emptiness and sin in your life? And like Jacob, who wrestled with the Angel, did you have a "knock down-drag out" encounter with the Lord about your sins and emptiness? Were there tears, repentance, followed by a powerful sense of forgiveness, release, joy and worship? Do you remember this spiritual encounter? How often? This is what we are to remember every time we come into worship service, our encounter with Christ. Then praise and thank Him for the encounter. This is vv orship. There are those who would get married, have a family, gather to themselves many friends, seek the opportunity to engage themselves with much social activity with family and friends, all designed to keep their lives from being empty, The Samaritan woman tried five times to fill this void in her life to no avail. Her encounter with Jesus filled and fulfilled her life "with living water"-love and forgiv enuss. I f y ou hav e gone to church and reuiniedhonie feel mil spiritual!) empty, then chances are you hail failed to engage or encounter Christ during the worship service. Christ encounters us in unique ways and not always in the way we may expect Him to do. In worship always look for and expect something new, When we read Matthews 13:52. we hear Jesus tell us that the Kingdom of heaven is like a man who brings out of his household treasures which are old and new, In other words/ Jesus may not heal us like He did the man at the poolside of Bethesda, but He will heal us in other ways, through medicine and surgery may he. I Ie vv ill give us our healing, ifwe but ask. Mtcr the "encounter' new visions will come. Nicodemus, the Jewish religious leader sought an encounter with Christ after dark, so no one would see him encountering the Lord. During the conversation with the Lord, we have no record that Nicodemus sought repentance for his personal sin. Nicodemus felt he had no sin being a religions leader, and needed no repentance. Jesus cut right to the chase and told the Jewish leader. "In a sense, you should know w hat y our spiritual needs are. but you don't. Instead you (Continued Onn Page 12) Notice to Creditors !
