On Feb., the Greater Durham Black Chamber of Commerce host
ed its Annual Black Business Gala as “we celebrate the outstanding
and continuous history of black business achievement in Durham.”
The Black Business Gala honored two deserving individuals that
have made a significant improvement to the community as business
leaders, Mrs. Peggy Johnson Tapp of the Chicken Hut and Isaac
Green of Piedmont Investment Advisors, LLC, as well as award
three businesses that have been exemplary in the black business
community.

Founder/CEO, Piedmont Investment Advisors
Isaac Green is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Offi
cer of Piedmont Investment Advisors, LLC. For more than 30 years,
Isaac has provided solid investment management portfolio counsel
including small, mid and large cap institutional products, quantita
tive research and securities analysis.
At Piedmont, Isaac oversees the strategic direction of the firm
and serves as the chair of the Board of Managers. As Chief Invest
ment Officer, he works closely with the Co-CIO of Fixed Income
to develop and monitor the investment activity of the firm. He is
also the Portfolio Manager for Piedmont’s flagship Strategic Core
large cap equity product. This product has outperformed the S&P
500 since its launch in Oct 2000.
Prior to Founding Piedmont in 2000, Isaac was appointed as Ex
ecutive Vice President of Loomis, Sayles’ Value Equity Manage
ment Division, assuming management responsibility for 25 invest
ment professionals, seven products and over $10 billion in assets.
During his tenure, he served as the Managing Partner at the Bloom
field office and managed Loomis’ second largest profit center which
grew from $3.5-$78 in assets under management under his leader
ship from 1995 until he left the firm in 2000.
Earlier, Isaac was a Senior Vice President and Director of Invest
ments at NCM Capital Management, where he had management re
sponsibility for all investment activities and investment staff. Prior
to joining NCM as a Director of Research, he began his career as a
Securities Analyst with NCNB National Bank.
Throughout the course of his investment career, Isaac has been a
guest on television programs such as CNBC and Bloomberg Tele
vision, and most recently UNC-TV’s North Carolina People. He
has also been featured in several investment publications, includ
ing Institutional Investor, Pensions & Investments, Triangle Busi
ness Journal and Black Enterprise. In 2010, he was honored with
the Maynard Holbrook Jackson, Jr. Award, an award given annually
by the National Association of Securities Professionals (NASP) to
the financial services industry professional who best exemplifies
entrepreneurial achievement, community service, and high moral
standards.
A native of North Carolina, Isaac received his AB in Economics
and Histoiy from Duke University, and his MBA in Finance and
Business Economics from Columbia University. Additionally, he
holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Isaac has
served as a board member for the UNC School of the Arts Board
of Trustees (Finance and Endowment Committees), Durham Acad
emy Board of Trustees (Finance and Diversity Committees), Uplift
Project, Inc. Board of Directors (Building Committee) and Board of
Pensions of the Presbyterian Church USA (Investment Committee).

Mrs. Peggy Johnson Tapp has been involved in the restaurant
business since 1957, the year she started her first job at the Chicken
Box concession stand. Almost 60 years later, Mrs. Tapp remains
committed to the business, having provided many years of leader
ship, hope, food service, community service, and love to the Dur
ham community. A Durham native, Mrs. Tapp was born in Durham’s
West End community to Albert and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson. The
oldest of 6 children (3 girls and 3 boys), Peggy attended Durham’s
Public Schools. She is a graduate of Hillside High School, where
she served as Parliamentarian of her senior class and was crowned
Miss Hillside.
After Hillside, Peggy enrolled at North Carolina College. Mean
while, Clarence Tapp, Jr. and his sister Julia Tapp had opened the
Chicken Box nearby. Peggy’s involvement with the Chicken Box
started shortly thereafter, working the Chicken Box concession
stands at the Michaux drive-in theater on Highway 55. Peggy con
tinued her work with The Chicken Box when the business opened
on Pine Street in 1956. In 1960, the Chicken Box relocated to its
present location at 3019 Fayetteville Street, changing the business
name to The Chicken Hut.
The Chicken Hut has been a vital part of the Durham community,
