Durham County Library will host Divine Dialogues: A
Conversation on Faith, Trauma and Healing at 6:00 p.m. on Monday,
April 11, at Stanford L. Warren Branch Library, 1201 Fayetteville St.
Honoring the legacy of resilience and hope that Pauli Murray
expressed for the Church, the Pauli Murray Project is engaging
in a community dialogue program called Divine Dialogues: A
Conversation on Faith, Trauma and Healing. Collecting quotes
from local faith practitioners and participants and drawing from
Pauli Murray’s own words, the Pauli Murray Project will have two
dialogues where we will wrestle with the state of faith, the role of
trauma in the formation of identity and cast our visions for what
sacred space could be.
“I had been taught all my life to revere the church and its teachings;
now I could not condemn the church as sinful when it denied me
the right to participate ,as fully and freely in worship of God as my
brethren. If the present church customs were justified, then I did not
belong in the church and it became a stumbling block to faith” —
Pauli Murray
“True Community is based upon equality, mutuality and
reciprocity. It affirms the richness of individual diversity as well as
the common human ties that bind us together.” — Pauli Murray
This program is sponsored by Resource Center for Women and
Ministry in the South and Durham Library Foundation. For more in
formation, call 919-560-0282 or visit durhamcountylibrary.org.

Library To Present: Let’s Work Together To Stop
Domestic and Sexual Violence
Free and open to the public
Durham County Library and Durham Crisis Response Center
(DCRC) is proud to work with The Durham Chapter of The Links,
Inc. to produce “Let’s Work Together To Stop Domestic and Sexual
Violence”, Saturday, April 9, 10 a.m.--2 p.m., at the Durham County
Public Library, 300 N. Roxboro St. Registration will begin at 9:30
a.m. and lunch will be provided.
“April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness
Month,” says Kate Selby, Sexual Assault Advocate for DCRC. “Dur
ing this month DCRC explores topics related to sexual assault, in
order to educate the community and to make our services known to
those who might need our help.”
With - a highlight on Keeping Safe in the fcyber World, the work
shop will have a dual focus: first, looking at the impact of sexually
explicit images that are disseminated via the internet; and second,
how we all should look at ways to safeguard ourselves while using
technology and social media.
The documentary, “Not Just Pictures” by Dr. Sharon Cooper,
Forensic Pediatrician and Executive Producer, will be viewed and
experts will be on hand to facilitate a discussion. The posting ofpho-
tos without consent, especially those of children, is not a victimless
crime and can have long lasting repercussions, as depicted in the
video. “To our knowledge, this is the first showing of this video in
Durham,” says Ms. Selby.
Members from the Durham Police Department will also be on
hand to share not only the type of problems such crimes have posed
in our community, but the measures that can be taken to maximize
safety in the cyber world.
DCRC has worked with many clients who have experienced
cyberstalking in intimate partner relationships. “We all use smart
phones and social media to connect with friends and family and we
don’t think about who may be following our actions on the internet.
We want people who are concerned for their safety to know how
to protect themselves on the internet,” says Nana Asante, Legal Ad
vocate with DCRC. “This includes people who are trying to end a
marital or dating relationship.”
“The Durham Chapter of The Links, Inc. is pleased to partner
once again with DCRC to address another crucial issue regarding
domestic and sexual violence in our community. We are committed
to bringing this issue to the forefront and helping our community
confront violence against women and children in a meaningful man
ner,” says Links member, Dr. Sandra White-Olden. “The event is free
and open to the public.”

in international trade with countries in Africa. The Muslim African
American community, was first involved with international trade
under The Honorable Elijah Muhammad when they imported fish
from Peru, “exceeding one-half million pounds of fish per month,”
said Imam W.D. Mohammed in The Teachings of W. D. Mohammed
(p.204). Imam W. D. Mohammed also predicted that the day would

overseas or international pursuits. The focus is to grow beyond
“mom and pop relationships.” He added that African Americans
should not allow the Tarzan image of Africa to continue to dwell
in the back of their minds. He also warned, “Do not be naive about
international trade, for it is a place to see wealth and opportunity and
a way to establish yourselves in industry”. Karriem said, “Take a
serious look at Africa.” He was encouraging the African American
