The notorious John Al len Ketchy, as many of our . readers will remember, was convicted some years" .ago 'at Guilford Court of horse stealing, and sentenced to seven years in the 'Penitentiary; but escap-! el from Guilford jail, and remained at large until the Christmas holidays ' when he was arrested near Salisbury by Messrs. Samuel Reeves, Jr., John Beard and D. L. Bringle, and placed in Kowan jail. Afterwards J. G. Haughton, Mayor of Salisbury,- issu ed his warrant for Ketchy, charging him with a rape upon the person of a very respectable young lady last Summer, and being adjudged, " pn an exam ination had before him, . that there was probable cause, coram it ted him for ..the '.capital offence to the jail of Rowan.
