Wilmington is having decidedlymore pleasant weather in December for her Fair than Charlotte had in November. Overcoats, Talmas and all other heavy goods will be sold at cost for cash only, at K Shrier's. dec 9 3t The war talk is subsiding, though there was a uniformed company in the city a few nights since, soliciting volunteers for the "scrimmage." Yesterday, was another lovely day and the pleasant state of the weather was taken advantage of by the ladies, many of whom were upon the atreets.T . We hope to see a" large crowd at the Charlotte Institute for young ladies to night. The admittance fee is 50 cents, and all who attend will be well repaid for it. o v. --,- A rrqdy oh'C'asabianca" will be found elsewhere. It is an effusion from the pen of a young gentleman friend who, we think, was one f the actors in the scene described. rope to know what to do with the remains, and that he had replied that the body must be "embalmed?1 and brought home at once by the man whowas then in the car riage with the fellow who "was telling this yarn. The spokesman said that several physicians in Charlotte were, engaged, ia the embalming process', and that it was the. intention of No 2 to start to Europe yesterday (Thursday) morning With the remains. There was one obstacle Jn the way, however tne'pobr fellow chad not enough money to carry himself and his dear, deceased brother to their distant home. The talking man, therefore, beg ged in behalf of No 2 that Mr. Mills buy some of his goods, in order to raise the requisite amount of money. Upon hearing this pitiful story, all the generous and sympathetic impulses of Mr. Mills' nature were aroused. am he bought largely of their goods,- having told them at the start that he really did not want to buy anything they had. Mr. M. took the man's representations for everything he bought, both as to quantity and quality, making almost no examination of the goods ; for the story seemed so straight and was told in such & sorrowful way withal, that he forgot everything save the distressful condition of the poor foreigner. The purchases having all been made, Mr. Mills gave the men $55 in cash and a note to Mr. J. C. Burroughs of this city, to please pay them $100 for him and he would re-imburse him (Mr. Burroughs) so so on an he came to town. , After the men had been gone some time, the work of opening and examining the goods began. lhen it was that the truth dawned upon Mr. Mills, and he awoke to the fact that he had been badly taken in. The articles were inferior in quality, some of them of almost uo account, while the cloths failed largely to measure out what he expected. He began then to suspect that the whole story was a fabrication, and yesterday morning, bright and early, arrived in A B Lawrence, G SB, " A B Schenck, 1 J. .
