The Concord b"xt publishes a rumor to the ef fect that Mr (J A Frazier, post master at Charlotte has been deposed, and that liobt E McDonald, of Concord, will succeed to his office. This may be true, but it is cer tainly news in Charlotte. Amusements Charlotte is without amusements at present, and since the exe cution, there is a lack of anything out of which to make even "street talk." Danc ing even seems to have lost popularity, and judging from the fewness of the balls given, it would appear that society is out growing this particular form of amuse ment. Leaving' Out "Middle Men." A member of Mallard Creek Grange who was in Charlotte yesterday, made out an order on the part of his own and other Granges, for 25 wagons from Chicago, 111. The ! Grangers claim that they can buythese wagons cheaper than any one else can The Five Points-The settlement in the rear of the Market is appropriately called the '"Five Points." It is a place vhere thieving and the grossest. immorali ties continually reign. Life is hardly safe there at night, and the freqaent robberies and affrays which occur there, demand extra vigilance on the part of the police for this locality. The Dixie Pump. There is a chance to save them now, and to make of them good citizens, men and women who shall be ornaments to the world and to society. This can be done by education and by impressing up on thent proper ideas of their responsibili ty to God, and the obligations resting up on them to lead useful and virtuous lives. If they kre turned loose now, it is easy to see what is to become of them. If this Asylum is sustained at all, it must be. as we have remarked, by private chairity. Our legislators, in their wisdom, have refused to make an appropriation for its support, turning deaf ears to every ap peal made in its behalf. No worthier cause could appeal to our charities. The matter is one ofdeep moment to the State, greater than the unthink ing are aware of. Let us then contribute of our means for the support and educa tion of these children of the W rld. The price of admittance is low. ami even if it were higher none should fail to attend, for the treat will toe a -rich -one, and, in addition, all who attend it will have the consciousness of knowing that they have contributed something to a great and good cause. What is the great antagonist of disease? It is the vital principle. From the mo ment that disease is developed in the sys tem, this champion fights the intruder un til it either conquers or is conquered. Which side should medicinal scieiiw-t-, pouse in this life and death druggie? Snould it depress and cripple the physical energies of the patient, thereby helping the disorder, or should it reinforce the vi tality of the patient and thereby assist in ouelliny! the ailment ? Of couise the pro per answer to this question must be obvi ous to every one above the grade of an idiot or a lunatic, and hence it follows that the weak ami broken down invalid who ehoses to tlose himself with depleting slops, instead of toning, invigorating and tetter's Stomach Bitters, must be either feeble minded or deranged. Surely noth- inc short of imbecility or insanity could induce a person laboring under bodily weakness ana nervous i prostration, to iaKe liUV unci nay ljJi - aUiuv .uuw . iiunmMvfi in tlifi honfi of caiomtr strenth thereby. Although charlatans mav advertise preparations of this charac- terras tonics, people in the full possession of their reason can not, one would think, accept them as-such. If they do the pen- all' of their credulity may be the short- ening of their lives. The rheumatic, the dyspeptic,' the billious. the debilitated and nervous, and all who are suojeci to liuer mittents, or other diseases brought on by the inclement weather which prevails at this season, will do well to strengthen their nerves, tone their stomachs and re- ulflt their bowels with the Bitters. The two-fold operation of the restorative as an invigorant and an aperient, in addition to iiM ,irPCt flnd snecific effect upon the dis ordered liver, renders it a most efficient remedy for complaints otthe digestive, se crettve and excretive organs, at present in use. This fact is conceded by eminent members of the faculty whose testimony to that effect is published in Hostetter's Almanac for 1874. tiljan22 New Advertisements.
