Before the late war he became a resident of Petersburg, where he mar ried, and when the war began he enlisfel in the Twelfth Virginia (Mahone's) Regi ment. He became a captain and served all through the eventful struggle with a marked bravery and gallantry. At the end of the1 war he again settled at Peters burg, and Was connected with' the South'. side Railroad, "for some time, until hlf was made agent of tlieSouthern Dispatch Fast Freight Line. Since hi connection with this line he has made Charlotte his head quarters, and here he was known to many pf our citizens as a high-toned, dignified gentleman,. one AigWy, PQi'Shea 4man- ners and most pleasing address, and a man who hated from the bottom of a true and generous soul, whatever was mean or dis honorable. Capt Waddell leaves a wife but no chil dren. He died in the faith of the Protest ant Episcopal Church.
