Brutality.We earnestly direct the at

An instance of this kind occurred in 50

Fire Alarm Yesterday morning about
I03Q $'clock the alarm of fire broke in up
on the monotony of business or idle
ness, and in a moment ''there was
hurrying to and fro." The streets were
soon alive with people, not leaving out
darkies, small boys and dogs. The fire
men made a rush for their respective en
gine houses, and had their engines about
ready to start to the scene, when it was
found that Jhe alarm was ( occasioned by
the burning of the plank kiln attached to
Ahren s saw mill, near the engine house
on the Air-Line Railroad. The blaze was
quite large, but when it was seen that
there was no danger of any other building
catching, the firemen calculated that
their 8iWJe"fdlspensed with, and

The kiln aud its contents were a total
loss. The kiln was a new and excellent
one", and was worth perhaps $200 or more;
it contained about 8,000 feet of lumber, we
understand, tso that the loss is about, $350.
Mr. Ahrens had a plank kiln burned at
the same place soriie time last Fall. , -

stand up under, and it was left lying on

are filled with the brightest, most spark

the most promising young writer in Amer
