Dr Wm Holt, but is now owned by his nephew Col Tom Holt, of Graham, Alamance county. The simple mention of the name of Holt, in connection with high farming and improved agriculture, car ries us back to the time when our State (N. C). Agricultural Society was first brought into existence through the untiring efforts of Dr Holt, of which he was the first President. The old Holt farm.bears unmistakable evi dence of improvement in agriculture, in th interest of which the "Doctor labored so nestly, zealonsty and faithfully and the evidences of his improvents, being solid and enduring, are still visible. Would that we had more such men. At Linwood we met a vast concourse of the farmers of Davidson, who had turned out en met!, with their wives and daughters to partake in the ceremonies of the occa ion. Ths audience was estimated at between five d six hundred. Linwood Grange has just completed a fine Grange Hall over the store of the Messrs. Smith, who appear to be live, well to do low, marshy localities, will so fortify the system against, the ? poison which" exhales from the soil as to preclude the posibility of of an attack of any malarious disease. -This remark applies to all- inhabitants of such localities. -but with double force to those who are deficient in constitutional stamina and vital power, Lidiyiduals whom nature has thus left comparatively defenceless will , only have themselves to blame if stricken down when a positive safeguard is within . their reach."
