; We liave Just learned that a dispatch has
been received from Wilmington, bringing
the information that the little; daughter of
Mr W. H. H. Gregory, who was expected to
loose her sight, can be cured by the justly
celebrated Physician, Dr. John Deftosseth,
who stood yery high in the city of Balti
more, and who has established' an Infirmary
in the city of Wilmington for the Eye and
Ear. We learn also, that Dr. . DeRosseth
proposes to visit Charlotte about the 8th of
March, and we would suggest that all who
are-afflicted with any diseases of the above
named organs, call on the Doctor when he
arrives. .
Rev. E. II. Harding,
We never hear a sermon by the pastor of
the Second Presbyterian Church, without
thinking how exceedingly fortunate that
congregation was in its selection; He is one
Of the most attractive ministers of the North
Carolina Lynod. His style is conversation
al, his manner entirely easy, and he forces
the attraction of each auditor. A highly
cultivated mind, blended with deck piety,
and a singular knowledge of human nature
makes Mr. Harding a minister whose influ
ence for good will be great upon his flock,
and particularly upon tne younger members
of it. ' He is endowd with fine natural tal
ents, and his exercise of thern is to the ad
vancement of the Redeemers Kingdom.

imperishable names of those who stand re

Carolina owes to those pre revolutionary he

A Court Incident
A right funny little incident transpired in
Court yesterday morning, directly after its
organization. The question was whether
there should be, during the week, a before
noon and an after noon session, or whether
one session, extending from 10 o'clock to 4.
The one session seemed to be the most pop
ular, but just before the matter was definite
ly settjed. Gen. Barringer arose and suggest
ed that a recess of 10 or 15 minutes be given
about noon, "for recreation.".; Gov. .Vance
saw at once an opportunity for a " hit," so,
turning to Gen. B be said : " General, will
you have sugar or will you take your recre
ation straight f' What effect this had upon
the Court, jury, bar and spectators, can be
better imagined by the reader than -the re
porter can describe it. ' : : .
We left just at this point, before the ques
tion was decided, but supposed the ten min
utes recess was agreed to, as we " ran up
on " the Governor about noon and he was
taking his " recreation " with sugar.

Saras' Song "The Blue-Eyed lassie.
Recently in looking over a copy of Burns'
Poems, our attention was attracted to one of
his Vbeantifui songs which bears a peculiar
interest to our Cbarlottonians, from the fact
it was written in compliment of the grand
mother of our esteemed fellow-townsman,
Capt. Jno, Wilkes. We copy the following
note prefixed to the song :
: " The Blue-Eyed Lassie," was Miss Jean
Jeffrey, daughter of Rev." Mr, Jeffrey, of
Lochmaben, In Dumfriesshire, at whose
house the poet was a frequent visitor. On
the occasion of his first visit, the young
lady, then a charming blue-eyed creature of
eighteen, did the honours of the table and
so pleased the poet, that next morning at
breakfast he presented her with the follow
ing passport to fame, in the form of ' one of
his finest songs. ' Miss ' Jeffrey afterwards
went out to New York, where she married
an American gentleman by. the name of
Renwick, io ,' whom she bore a numerous
family. . One of her daughters becane the
wife of Captain (afterwards Commodore)
Wilkes, of the U. S. Navy. (Burns' Poem

The Wildmau Troupe. ,
Mr. M. B. Oowles, the agent of the Clara
WiMman Troupe, dropped in on us for a few
nioinen'.s yesterday. He was on his way to
Staiesvilie, where company will open ' next
Monday night. It gives us pleasure to say
to our Statesville friends that a chaste and
pleasant entertainment await-them. Iti is
the first time they haye ever had the oppor
tunity of witnessing a presentation of the
drama, and we hope and believe they will
patronize and appreciate the Wildmans.
Clara and F. J. Wildman are both excellent
and the company taken as a whole, is a very
talented ont.
It is a sourc3 of gratification to us to say-,
further, that this troupe will appear at tbe
Charlotte Opera House the latter part of
next week. One of the plays which they
will present will be "Sole and Shingle" ;
this is John Owens' specialty, and in it
Wildman 13 said to be splendid. All Char
lotte will welcome the Wildmans back, for
we have the plcasantest f recollections of
them.
So linger Without a Title.
A meeting of the printers of the Obseuveb
office was held yesterday evening, immedia
tely before supper tinib, at which a. preama
ble and resolutions were adopted. They
were as follows : "Whereas, everybody in
the world, except the city editor of the
Observer, is honored with a title ; and
whereas he is more entitled to one than
seven-eighths of the men who have them ;
therefore, be it resolved, that, henceforth;
the gentleman mentioned, shall be called by
us, "Squire." Resolved, that the said city
editor be requested to make a note of , these
proceedings, and that a copy 'Of them be
furnished to his family." The pr earn able
and resolutions were adopted with much
enthusiasm, while the hand who turns the
press stood on his head, .and ;the devil eat
astride the stove pipe and called for . ''more
