It was . foreshadowed in ; these : columns yesterday morning, that the work, of widen ing the gauge of the North Carina : Rail road, would probably be completed yester day and a train' leave Charlotte lafet night on schedule time. Such, however, was not the case. The work seems to have, been clumsily managed, and the progress made has been very slow. . This matter has been the principal topic .of conveisation since Sunday ,and yesterday renewed interest was manifested when a new aspect was placed on the face of affairsh when it'was announced that the legislative and executive branchesr of the State Government had stepped in to prevent, if possible, the chahge df the uge Hi a. laie uour uu juuuuay uigui,, vopi John iilsoh the agent ofthe road la this city, received a telegram from .
