animation of Dr. S. E. Bratton, proved
in his juagmem to be an insane person
He represented himself as an Irishman,

Street Crossings.
The new Mayor and Aldermen have
made not a few promises to the citizens
in regard to improvements on the streets
and crossings. We would call their at
tention to the crossing on Trade street,
where the Carolina Central Railroad
crosses the main street. It is danger
ous for travelers and ort night before
last, a young man with ;"a battalion of
ladies, on their way from the Cantata,
were only kept out of the hole by a
of pavement osisth street,, between
Church and- Poplar, that is. a disgrace
to any city, much less to the progres
ive city of -Charlotte. We have been
alluding to it occasionally- for three
months. Let us have some action

reasons and on account of the facts set

form the duties of chief of police. And
that he excute a bond with security

of $10,000, for the faithful discharge of
his duties.
4th. That the city constable and six
subordinates shall constitute the police
force of the city, and the salary of said
subordinate police be fixed at $50 each
per month. . -
; On motion of R. M. Oates, it was
resolved that tho salary of the Clerk
and Treasurer be fixed at $400, and that
he be required to give bond in the
penal sum of $5000, with security to be
approved by the Board for the faithful
performance of duty.
At the suggestions of the Mayor, it
was ordered that the present city offi
cers and policemen be continued on
duty till the further : action of the
Board.
