This is a very eood start, and we expect more fun at tbe next. , The Mystery Solved at Last. Our readers have doubtless been puz zled over the mysterious advertisement, in this paper and wondered what. "Everobody will have one," "Will soon be ready," arid all meant. ,Mr Welch, the prince of advertisers, solves the mys tery in this issue of the Observes. Mr Welch deserves the patronage of the community, if for no other reason, for his ingenious method of advertisine. But the enterprise advertised is of it self deserving of the encouragement and patronage of our citizens. We shall notice this lithograph more at length hereafter. A Mew Book. By referring to our. advertising columns, it will be seen that Messrs. E. J. Hale & Son, 17 Murray street, New York, have now in press, "tbe original evidence of the Meek lenburg Declaratioa ef My 20hr ISTo,' which will be ready in a few days for sale at all the book stores, for tbe benefit of the Centennial and Monumental Association, Although, the whole ground as to tbe Mecklenburg claim was fully traversed some fifty years ago, yet the arguments then published in elucidation and proof thereof, are inaccessible to tne mass or tne inquisi tive readers of the present day. To these enterprising publishers, sons of the Old North State, the reading public will doubt less be gratified for collating and publishing in a tangible and imperishable form so that it can be transmitted to future ages all the documentary evidence bearing upon this much, discussed and controverted event. BONA F ID E ana tuut we mean just what we say, 11 ' be given. Our regular Sprine Opening wi nonce win take place in a few days, of which, due KOOPLIANII & ROTHSCHILD. 4 Spoliation of Records. We are informed that an autograph of one of the signers of the Mecklenburg Re solves of May 20, 1775, who was a Justice of tbe Peace at that period in our history, and whose name as such appears in the old rec ords of our county courts, has been recently cut out by some larcenous antiquarian. We would suggest to the custodian of this price less volume that he keep a sharp look out for this sort of iantequrian thieves. -:oo:- TO THE MERCHANTS OF- 9 NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA, We beg leave to call attention to our Apple-y. The report that the gentleman who was put in jail as an insane person is a reporter of the Wash' ington Republican appears to be without foundation. Frank Leslie has written to Mr. U. C Eccles of the Central Hotel, ia reference to engaging a reporter and photographer for his " Illustrated Weekly." to "do" the Meek lenburg Celebration. Where is Mr, Rufus Morgan ? Clingman This distinguished North Carolinian is now in our city and honored us with a call yesterday. We are happy to learn that it is his intention to remain with us till after the Centennial. The Wil mington Star and other State journals have been urging that General Cling man write a history of North Carolina. We do not know whether ihe possesses the sort talent that is required for his torical . composition or ,not, but one thing we can say of him without fear of successful contradiction, General Cling man has a larger and more varied as sortment of information than any liv ing North !
