A special venire of 75 has been summoned in this case. i : Old lusciiptlon. At Hopewell Churchy twelve miles north of Charlotte, are buried Gen Davidson, who fell at Cowan's Ford, and Francis Bradley, one of the heroes of the battle of Mcln tyre's branch. We learn from our friend, Capt Graham, who lived Beyeral years in that neighborhood, that there is no stone to mark the grave of tba former, and the exact spot is in some doubt : Above the graye of the latter some friend has erected the fol lowing memorial : Upon a tablet of soap stone is engraved two ' swords crossed, be neath them a snield bearing 13 stars, with au eagle on either side, and below on a scroll : "Arma Ltbet-Uvtis," Then follows "In Memory of Francis Bradley, A Friead to Liberty and was privately slain by the enemies of his country, Nov. ye 14th, A. D. 1780, aged 37 years." He was known as one of the boldest of the hornets. A legend is handed down of his attempt to kill or cap ture the British commander of this post: It is said that en one occasion ho and his wife came into the town, during ' its occur pancy by the British, and, concealing him. self in a chinquepin thicket in the lot now occupied by the First Presbyterian Church, senb his wife out in the street to sell the but ter. She sent for: the British chief to come out and examine the butter, but whether he suspected a decoy, or whether it was from some other cause, heuid not go himself but sent an orderly.' IFnile this Orderly was looking at the butter, Bradley, who was al most a hundred yard3 distant, leveled on him and firei, killing him instantly. He himself was afterwards waylaid -on the pub lic highway and killed, and this is what is meant by that part of the inscription which says he was "privately slain." : A Day In Charlotte. Under this head and under date of May 13th, a traveling correspondent of the Louis ville (Ky.) Courier-Jownal, writes to that paper as follows. iLike all other visitors, he has a good opinion of our city. He writes : ''Charlotte is a bright, lively place, and has a busy, bustliner, business-like appear ance, which is cheerful to look upon.
