Banished from the City.
Those shining lights, Ella Bell and
Josephine Hammond, who were com
mitted to jail, about a week ago (they
having been just the day befere
turned out) for vagrancy and
cussedness, were discharged from
custody yesterday morning. The sen
tence of the law is still held over them,
and they were told to leave the city and
that if they ever returned they would
be re-arrested and cast back into pris

hope, of two of the worst pests it
ever knew.

The Neptune Fire Engine.
The members of the Neptune Fire
Company, or a portion of them wefe out
yesterday afternoon, to make the third
and final test of the engine which has
just been received by the company. All
the members not being present, a por

to assist in the pumping. The engine
threw a stream 184 feet. The require
ment is 200 feet. The test was made
in the presence of the committee ap

The committee were to have held a
meeting last night to settle whether or
no the engine should be accepted, but
the meeting did not take place.
The County Prisoners.
County. Commissioner Vail informs
something to console the' heavier losers, at
least. The five, ten twenty and hundred
dollar fellows need no attention at all. A
loss like that gave them something to talk
about, which was worth more to them than
the money.
The Future London will help itself out of
this scrape in a very short time, and its
citizens need no consolation from us. They
are not of the sort to sit down and grieve
over spilt milk, They have long since gone
to work to repair their losses, and Charlotte
is going ahead, building and trading, and
buying and selling,, and in every way rush
ing along toward being a big city, j ust as if
no failure bad ever taken place within her
borders. It will require more than the fail
ure of one bank to check the enterprise of
its people, and soon there will be no evi
dences left of the disaster which has just
overtaken the Future London.
