A meeting of tbe Board of Aldermen took place at the City Hall, yesterday afternoon. The purpose for which the Board was called together, was to consider the petition of the farmers of the township', asking that a city ordinance be passed prohibiting stock run ning at large af er the 1st of January next; in other words," asking that the City of Charlotte be incorporated ia the working of the stock law. The matter was discussed and the petition was granted by a unani mous vote of the Board. It is important that this proceeding be borne in mind, as, after tbe time designated, owners of stock who allow their stock to run at large, will suffer the penalty. . 'r A petition was presented to the Board, asking for an extension of the gas mains on either end of Trade and Tryon streets, to the end that the citizens living away from the centre of business may have the benefit of street lights.
