On Christmas Eve.-wben the Christmas Tree will be given the children of the Second Presbyterian congregation, they will kave a Christmas Praise Service, cocsisting of Christ mas hymns, prayer and scriptural lessons. He was ordained deacon by Bihop Houle, January, 1830, and elder by Bishop Hedding January, 1832. A ministry of near half a century (longer than that of ary oth er effective member of the South arolina Conference.) has been. spent as follows : On circuits, nine year; stations, eleven; mis sions, nine; in colleges, agencies, AC , twelve; supernumerary pr superannaied. five; on dis tricts, i wo. Mr M is .closing his first year as presiding eldej of the rangeburg District. He is a g od preacher and energetic worker, but is specially eminent as a pastor. Goods and Where to Bay With this issue we conclude the list of dealers who are offering Christmas giods. First of these we take , , ' ;."U'..-c. HAsaaisr.' He has teen established in business not yet a year lit this 'place. It has kept a stock in some respects different from that of any other house in the city, and the appearance of the store and the ar rangement of the goods, have had no little to do with the prosperity of the firm. It is the neatest looking grocery house in the city, and the goods are all fresh and nice. An advertisement which appears in another colamn of the pa per. sets forth a part of the Christmas stock, and the array will be found quite attractive. . ' . T. COLXM1X BMT. These are as yet comparative strangershav ing been established, in business ' here only two or three months.' This store is not a large one, but it $s kept full, and their stock J u yery select 1 - They have shown an amount Of enterprise which should commend them to any community! and which, has already brought to them a Tery fair ran of regular patronage. Being just established, their stock . may be relied upon as fresh. They enumerate, in advertisement published else where, a part of the stock which they have in store. . , , . f A SMITH A CO. , These gentlemen, though not strictly speak ing dealers In Christmas goods, have such an assortment that many things which they keep are suitable for . holiday presents." In the lighter department of the furniture de partment, there are numerous things which are both useful and ornamental and in their wett filled store, it will not be d fficult to find something. We hope, however, that present makers will spare this writer's shins and feelings, and not purchase a baby car nage for anybody. " .' 1 i"' ! The whole effect of the periormahce was very much marred by there being no one to take the part of Aurore. No Character in the opera affords scope for a better display of talent than this, and yet it was carried ont with such lameness as to leave the shrewd, imperious and masc uline nature of the real Aurore, totally unrecog nizable. . . The choruses were, in the main,very good indeed. The punch bowi song was perhaps the finest, considering the number of voices. Tui performance was certainly possessed of merit, but the imperfections were glaring To add to all, the opera was cut, as we fear ed it would be. Tb after-piece was very amusing, and the "gag" were particularly enjoyed. . Meeting; of the Board ef Aldermen. Toe B jard met in regular session yesterday afternoon; present. His Honor, tbe Mayor, and Aldermen Myers, Miller, Davidson, Al exander, Oates, Walker, Goidon, Moore and Sims The proceedings of the last meeting were read and approved. . .Ou motion of Alderman Walker, ordered that W Byrne be permitted to - transfer to J A McLuie, his auctioneer's lieense for the unexpired term. ' Alderman Vt alker moved that the Board assume the paymeut of an account due Al exander, Seigle & Co., from the individual members of the Pioneer Fire Company, the same being for uniforms for said company, Alderman Sims objected, and called for the ayes and noe; the vote was taken by calling the roll, and resulted aa follows : those vot ing aye were Aldermen Miller, Dayidson, Alexander, Oates, Walker, Gordon and Moore; voting no was Alderman Sims, and the motion was declared adopted. An application from policemen for exemp tion from city poll tax, was, oo motion, laid on the table. A communication from Mr F A McNinch was read, criticising the manner in which the recent macadamizing was done, con demning the work, and offering to show the Board, on examination, tbe justice of bis strictures. On motion, ordered that the Clerk be in structed to return the communication to Mr McNinch without comment. : Alderman Sims offered the following Ordi nance, which, on motion was adopted: ' Be it ordained that tbe President or Su perintendent of either of theGas Companies, or any person laboring for them, in excavat ing the streets to make repairs or; to extend theirpipes, where the streets are macadam ized, snail pound in the earth so taken out when replaced, and place - on the surface thereof ten inches of pounded rock, so as to restore it to its former condition. In default of any on of these requirements, tbe Presi dent, Superintendent or Agent of either of the Gas Companies shall be fined a sum not exceeding seventy-five dollars, at the discre tion of the Mayor." ' ' ' On motion of Alderman Sims, the rules were suspended, and the ordinance passed its second and third readings. On motion of Alderman Sims, Chap 3rd, Sec 6, of the printed ordinances, which was amended at the meeting of "the Board on May 25th, 1875, was further amended so at to read as follows : . , "That any person or persons, who shall discharged any gun or pistol, or sell give or deliver, or set fire to or explode,"or us any squib or fire-crackers within the - limits ef the city, shall; be deemed guilty of a misde meanor, and upon conviction thereof shall forfeit and pay for each and eyery -offence, tne sum or twenty-ave aouars.'; .h .
