The World special says the President. ex-Secretary Borie, Fred. Grant, and others, are implicated in land transactions of doubtful, honesty, in connection with the Denver & Rio Grande Rail way; also that the committee will re port no sufficient evidence in the cadet case against Hays, of Alaba ma. The crooked features in the Ken tucky mule case, are becoming plain er. Washington, March 23.- The Senate is discussing the bill for counting the electoral vote. The Senate Post Office Committee to-day heard the New York delegation on third class mail matter. The Ways and Means Committee will, on Tuesday, hearjthe iron and steel interest; Thursday, chemicals and colors, as affected by the new tariff. ' Washington, D. C, March 24. The Ways aad Means Committee to day concluded the cotton branch of the tariff bi, increasing the duty on bleached domestic from 3 to 4 per cent. Silver coin is worth 93 110 com pared with R6ld dollars. The report of the committee will ex honerate Hays of cadet appoint ments. The Spencer investigation was fruit less to-day. ' Schenck i here. $6,000 to $8,000 were exacted from Durfee and ,Peck for campaign pur poses in the last Presidential election . Fish and Ward were also paid. Bowers' estate at his death was worth $28,000, to $30,000, including a $15,000 life insurance policy. The life insurance was put into the firm of E. Q. Leonard & Co., and paid to Pendle ton as the lawyer of Bowers' widow, now Mrs. Belknap. The money was paid to the order of Amanda Bowers. Leonard paid it to Pendleton, and got his (Leonard's) note. The testimony is circumstantial as to the sale of the post tradership, but nothing to con vict Belknap. Stewart received $230,000 for his ser vices in the Emma Mine business, $100,000 of which was a present to his wife. The Senate, during the morning hours, debated pensions. Morton gave notice that he would, next Monday, call up and dispose of the resolution to inyestigate the Mississippi elections. The Electoral Bill consumed the day. No action. House. The recent kidnapping of the Span- ard, Holgado, is developing into a conspiracy for the swindle of a Cuban ady, Gerrona Fernandez, of $30,000. Four hundred bbls. of Jupite pow der exploded in the Northern portion of the city to-day. Four persons were blown to atoms ; two of the injured will die. The Bank of Camden has failed for $75,000.
