Sent for him and got much information from Bell, which, at the suggestion of Babcock's counsel, Bell reduced to an affidavit. Babcock gave Bell about a hundred dollars. The Sereeant-at'Arms of the Senate to-day served a writ on Belknap, who was cheerful and talkative. He said' that only one side had been beard. Two hundred and twenty-seven thousand dollars epent in furnishing the New York Postoffice, in violation of law, is under investigation by the sub-committee on appropriations, hav ing charge of the deficiency bill. Postmaster Cochraue, ofSelma, de fers to the Elections and Privileges Committee, and repeats hia story be fore the Alabama Commission that there was no bargain between him and Spencer. He has no recollection of the conversation between himself and Armstrong to which Armstrong swore. Wm E Chandler is conduct ing the defense. Purman quoted before the Commit tee on Civil Service, that, his election cost him six thousand dollars, and he was going to get some of it back; some old fellow wanted a cadetship for his son, and if he got it, would have to pay for it. Richmond, April 7. The case in the United States Circuit Court inyolving the application of certain bondholders for the appointment of a receiver for the Atlantic, Mississippi & Ohio Rail road, was to-day postponed by Judges Bond and Hughes till Tuesday, 2d of May. Judge W D Shipman, of New York, of counsel for the foreign bond- holders.asked for the postponement for the non-arrival of Mr. Collison, agent of the foreign bondholders who, Judge Shipman stated, would probably re concile certain difficulties that it was apprehended would arise in the pro gress of the case between the Atlantic, Mississippi & Ohio Railroad bond holders, and the holders of the divia ional bonds and thereby clear away what might otherwise be a fruitful source of embarrassment in the future progress of the case. Jewell, Bris- tow and Robeson were absent from the Cabiaent to-day. In the Spencer investigation, M G Cander testified that he knew of no corrupt practices in electing Spencer. H R Myers testified that he secured the appointment of Moulton as post master at Mobile, against Spencer s wish. He knew of no corrupt prac tices to secure Spencer's election. The case closed and the coucsel were al lowed two weeks to prepare written arguments. House. It was a private bill day. Frank Camblas, a member of the Board of Trade, with drew hia account from the Bank and absconded, leaving over a half million bushels of wheat unpaid for.
