Now They Nail Morton Louisiana Matters. Washington, D. C, April 29. A World special says : "Several days ago, a correspondent of the World was in formed that there were important doc uments in the Second Comptroller's office in the Treasury, which would reveal Senator Morton in an umprom isiny light. It appears that the 37th Congress passed an act appropriating two millions of dollars to pay for arm ing the loyal citizens of the States in rebellion against the United States &aTermrreBt. Gov. Mertotv laid 4aands on $25,000 of that. Indiana was never in rebellion against the government of the United States, and it was a query why Morton should have had $25,000 when there was no purpose under the statue making the appropriation, for which the money could have been legally expended. Another attempt to obtain or at least examine the cor respondence pertaining to the case, will be made on Monday. It will be investigated by Mr. Glover's Commit tee on the Real Estate Pool. Gen. Gidson is Chairman of the Committee to investigate Federal affairs at New Orleans. Gov Kellogg's friends are feeling more favorable for the levee appropriation than he ex pected. CALIFORNIA. Some four years ago a number of bankers and brokers of this city were swindled out of $87,000 by counterfeit 7-30 United States bonds. These bonds the bro kers sent to the Treasury Department before their character was discovered, for redemption, and received the pro ceeds. After their bogus character was discovered, the Government insti tuted suit to recover the amount. The cafee was tried to-day in the United States District Court, and resulted in a verdict for the Government. The World says during the last three days, Commodore Vanderbilt has un dergone a careful examination, and it has been discovered that his physical condition is rapidly going to pieces. Printing Awarded? Nomination Withdrawn Quarters Received Davenport's Vouchers Kilbourne Again House Proceedings Com mittee Testimony, i Washington, D. C., April 29. The printing of the delinquent tax list was awarded to the Republican. The President has withdrawn the nomination of S L Anable, as pension agent at Norfolk . The Treasury Department has re ceived a hundred thousand dollars in quarters from San Francisco. Davenport exhibited his vouchers for money expended, in New York. The examination elicited nothing new to-day. " The District Committee of. the House agreed to abolish the present Board of Health and establish a new one, composed of the attorney of the district, a medical officer of the army, and one citizen of the district. The impression prevails that the Real Estate Committee will again summon Kilbourne, and if he persists in contempt, hold him in despite the habeas corpus. The Mary Merritt in vestigation was continued to-day, with out implicating Bristow in her release. Bristow again attempted to show that Moore was instigated by the whiskey ring, but investigation in that direc tion was refused. House. Harris, of Virginia, Chair man of the Committee on Elections, called up the contested election case ofLe Mayne versus Farwell, from the third Congressional District of Illinois. The Internal Revenue receipts to day were ninety-three eights of a mil lion ; customs a hundred and twenty five quarter million. Secretary Chandler testified to-day before the Real Estate Committee, that he had received a letter from the White House saying it was rumored that pension agent Clements was pay ing money for influence, and request ing him to communicate with Clem ents and notify him that if it was trne it must be stopped. Chandler caused a letter to be sent Cloments to that effect, but did not receive any reply. Shortly afterwards, the President sent in Mr. Amholtz's name for Clements' place. Witness was not aw are of any money having been paid by Clements for his position. Before Clymer's Committee, J H Tomtilette testified that he was con nected with the office of the United States Marshal of the Northern Illinois District from '65 to '73, as baliff and special deputy. The salary or amount charged on the emolument as paid to witness was much larger than he ever receiyed. He had visited the Treasury Department since arriving in Wash ington, and taking a memorandum of figures in the emolument account there, had found them much greater than the amount he received for the last 6 months in 1867. The emolu ment account purported to pay wit ness $3,203, but witness received only $750 besides his bailiff fees. In the first half of '6S, he is charged with $3,533, and only received about $1,000. Wit ness gave other instances of the same character. He gave blank receipts, and finds the receipts filled up to agree with the emolument account. The receipts were always signed in blank. Witness had made demands on J Rus sell Jones, who was marshal at that time, for settlement. Jones was, at the time of the application, getting ready to go as Minister to Belgium, and told witness he had instructed Mr. Cates to give him $1,200 for the first year, $1,600 for the second, and $2,000 per annum for the balance. The money had never been paid to witness. Witness wrote to Jones four months ago, ask ing if he was going to stand to the agreement, and Jones said he was. NEW YORK.
