The Demo cratic Convention platform is for the honest payment of the public debt, gold and silver the only legal tenders, tariff for revenue only, and prohibi tion of Chinese immigration. The resolutions strongly endorse Tilden; but the delegates are uninstructed be yond to vote as a unit. Thirteen cases of small pox have de veloped since the arrival of the Color ado, which had it aboard. Louisville, May 26. In the Demo cratic Convention, Gen Lucius Disha was Chairman. The delegates at large are : Henry Watterson,, W C P Brcck enridg,e, Willis B Martin, and John M Rice. The platform is for the imme diate and unconditional repeal of the resumption act, but regards gokl and silver as the true basis of circulation. There was no declaration in favor of any candidate. WASHINGTON. Creswell Before the Committee House Proceedings. Washikgtok, May 26. Creswell is before the Post Office Committee ex plaining matters. In the House a resolution calling on the Secretary of War for the number of troops station ed in the Southern States, at what points, and for what purpose, met ob jection from the Republican side, and could not be entertained. A large meeting of citizens interested in rice and sugar planting, was held last even ing in 'opposition to the Hawaiiian treaty. A committee was appointed to proceed to Washington and urge the defeat of the treaty. Wm F Laroache is mortally wound ed, and Matt Hagan not expected to live, Thomas LTaulaham was arrested. The three had a pistol fight to-day. PENNSYLVANIA. An $80,000 Fire in Tamaqua. Tamaqua, May 26. Early this morn ing a fire broke out on Broad street. The flames originated in B Zimmer man's bakery, in the cellar of the old Union Hotel. The hotel was entirely consumed, and the fire spreading, par tially destroyed Schwartz &Bros' store; and Draper's shoe store, and Dbw ritzer's furniture store were totally de stroyed. The total loss was $80,000 ; insurance $45,000. ILLINOIS. Sale of Durham Short Horns. Chicago, May 20. The Durham lawn herd short horns, owned tby Col. Robt. Holloway, of Alexis, 111., were sold at auction, yesterday, at Dexter Park. Buyers were present from all parts of the United States and Canada, and the bidding was spirited. Sixty five head were sold, and a total of over $70,000 realized. Tbe average price of cows was $1,130 ; bulls $814. VIRGINIA. Elections Democrats Successful Ev erywhere Except in Lynchburg. Richmond, May 26. Tbe municipal elections occurred yesterday. There, were no disturbances. The Democrats were successful by over 2,000 majority. The Republicans carried Lynchburg only. Piper Hung Frost Executed Two Men Drowned Suit Against a Col lector. Boston, May 26. Piper, the belfrey murderer, was hanged today. The fall caused instant death. Worcestir, May 26. Sana'l J Frost was executed to-day for the murder of his wife's brother. He was calm and determined; talked politics and play ed checkers during his last days. The fall was so great that his head was torn from his body, the blood spurting in every direction. Gloucester, May 26. Chas Oates and Wm Combs were drowned in the harbor to-day. Boston, May 26.
