port from cemeteries show that there
were 12 yellow fever interments yester
day. The report of the committees of
benevolent associations to-day, show
that the disease is on the decrease and
isjconfined entirely tot-he auburbs.
Augusta, Aug. 31. Parties arrested
for lynching Robert Williams in this
city Saturday night had a. preliminary
examination before the County Court
to-day, and were committed to jail
charged with murder in second degree,
to await trial before the Superior
Court.
Joseph Goldsmith of Charleston, Avas
killed in a railroad accident on the
South Carolina Railroad , near Aiken
this morning.
The'tiegrp poese who killed a wbite
man hamed Porter, at Windson, S. C,
on yesterday, were not summoned by
the Sheriff They were arrested and
jailed at Aiken to-day. Great excite
ment prevailed ; timely interference of
prominent citizens saved them from
being lynched. .
