received from Colorado to-day, at the
headquarters cf the Republican Na
tional Committee, declaring that, that
State had gone Republican, and that
the Republicans had elected the Gov
ernor and had a majority in the State
Legislature.
At the Democratic headquarters the
following dispatch was received : "Re
turns come in slowly but most en
couragingly. We claim the State offi
cers and Legislature."
Chicago, Oct 4. The Times Denver
special say6: The election was quietly
conducted yesterday, though there was
great excitement all over the State.
Gov Riutt called out the State militia
to suppress a reported outbreak on the
Southwestern border. Indications now
are that the vote will be very close.
Returns favorable to the Democracy
come from Colorado Springs!. Majori
ties for the Democrats are reported
from Central City, Black Hawk, Trini
dad, Baulder, and other places. The
State, County and Legislative tickets
being successful iu these places. The
Democratic headquarters at Denver is
the scene of the greatest excitement
and the Democrats claim the election
of Hughes for Governor. Patterson
for Congress and the whole Legislative

An Ocean Cable in the Pacific:
The Asiatic Telegraph Company, char
tered by the last Congress, propose to
complete the last link in telegraphic
communication around the world by
laying a submarine cable in the Pacific
ocean to communicate with Asiatic
and American lines. The company is
required to begin to lay the line within
three years from August 15th last.
The written acceptance of the terms of
the act has been tiled already with
the secretary of State. These terms
exact equal privileges with foreign
governments and citizens.
