Although nearly confident of the great political victory which was achieved by the National Democratic party on Tuesday, the stoutest hearts were almost overcome by the depress ing news 'which was flashed over the wires early yesterday morning. Amid the rejoicing of the Democrats over the election of Vance, and the Demo cratic State ticket, the great National contest was almost lost sight of, and it was not. until the dispatches an nouncing the unprecedented Demo cratic gains for Vance, left no doubt of their election, that the thought3 of the people were turned to Tilden. Early in the day it was announcd that Tilden still lacked one vote of a majority in the electoral college, and lists of the States, with the number of votes each had were eagerly and ner- vously consulted, but later bulletins to" the Observk.r and the "Griffith News Club" relieve4,the friends of reform of all suspense, and ultimately announc ed Gov Tilden's undoubted election, as will be seen by the following dis patches : FLORIDA.
