Hon L Q C Lamar, Wathington,D C: Have the President, Secretary and Cabinet waited on immediately by our friends ; let them state that absolute peace prevails here, and in the House where both bodies are in session. If Ruger interferes it will be without a shadow of an - excuse. The Situation Unchanged in Colum- bia. Columbia, Dec. 2. The situation is perceptibly unchanged. The Demo cratic and Republicans legislatures have occupied the House of Represen tatives since Nov 30. Both are work ing to secure advantage. The Demo crats are cheerful, but it is easy to dis cover their anxiety. The Republicans, all coloredexcept four, are nearly sll strangers and appreciating the honor, will likely bold out several days. LATER. The two most prominent Republi can members, both colored, Myers and Hamilton, of Beaufort, have just de serted Mackey's side of the House ai d have been sworn in byne. Democratic Speaker Wallace ; others are expected this evening. Both houses are etill in session, Republicans straining every nerve to save themselves.- The Demo crats are more. cheerful. Where the military had gone further it has been clearly shown to be a misconception of orders, and ihe act had been prompt ly disavowed by superior authority. In reeard to interference in elections there is not a single instance on rec ord where the presence of the military had intimidated a single voter. Un the contrary it had been clearly shown that both in South Carolina and Louis iaoa the presence of the military ena bled all tho colored people who wish ed to do so, to Vote the 'Democratic ticket. The President has no doubt but what all the questions growing out of the Presidential contest will be- peacefully adjusted; that the counsels of the eood and patriotic men in both u parties will prevail. '. Mackey in the House this evening told Wallace he intended to remove the Edgefield men witbjState constables. Wallace said the House was the only conservator of ltd own order, and could not legally be interfered with by constables, or any outside force.1 If such an attempt were made he would resist with 'all the power at his command, and not yield except to United States troops under Gen Ruger. Matters are- approaching a crisis. If Ruger sustains Mackey the Democrats will be expelled, if hjs de clines to do so they will remain. - tial ri"patch to the 018trver j Columbia, S. C, Dec 2, 187G, 1 ' 11.45 P. M. j iThe affairs at the Capitol, are about in the same condition, as they have been for tl e bast two davs. Both Houses are still in session, and are ex pected ., to remain ' all day Sunday. Hami;t n aixl Myers, two prominent colored men, have joined the Demo crats mure accessions are expected. The rule against Mackey, the bogus speaker, to show cause why he should not deliver the official returns to speak er Wallace, relating to t-.e Guberna. torial vote at the recent election which were placed in his hands, U returnable Monday. The Senate tra- sicted no business to diy. The Republicans seated tbeic members from Abbeville, although the Democrats have certificates from Sec retary of State, having passed the Scrutiny of the canvassing board. This became necessary for a quorum. (If they didn't have a quorum, how could: they do an illegal act to get one. The proposition is simply farcical. Ed.) The Democrats are more hopeful, and expect a peaceful solution of this prob lem, in a few days. It is believed here that Gen Ruger will not interfere, ex cept to preserve the peace. No distur- bance is anticipated. It has been dis covered that some colored Republican, has been personatiug one of the bogus members (this seems to bs a double bogus Ed) from Barnwell ; counly, which dt legation was seated, although the Democratic members, from .that county held certificates from the board of canvasiers, and the Secretary of State. The seating of these two dele gations has-excited great disgust,' and is regarded as the crowning act of folly, of this rump assembly. .: r. Last night the negroes enlivened the all night se3sion, by singing "Hold the Fort for Hayes' - ''Angelina,'', etc. accompanied by a banjo. They went through the same performance after seating the Abbeville delegation. Preaching is anticipated to-morrow..
