The South Carolina Memorial comes

Senator Gordon, which follows, can be
called up by him at any time, and will
be reg larly before the Senate: Re
solved by the Senate that the State
Government now existing in the State
of South Carolina, and represented by
Wade Hampton as Governor, is the
lawful government of 6aid State. That
it is republican in form and every as
sistance necessary to sustain its proper
and lawful authority in said Stale,
should be given by tho United States
when properly called upon for that
purpose, to the end that the laws may
be faithfully and promptly executed,
life and property protected and defend
ed, and all violators ef laws, State or
National, brought to speedy punish
ment for their crimes. Adjourned to

cause all the colored women refused
to stay unless she was sent away ; that
she was a notorious prostitute and un
worthy of beliefs Chairman Howe said
he had long since come to the conclu
sion that nothing she said was to be
believed merely because she said so.
Therefore there was no use in attempt
ing to strengthen that opinion by such
evidence. - Mr. Saulsbury thought
those charged by her with participation
in assaults should be allowed : to con
tradict her.' Mr. Howe said they might
also say that Eliza was wounded and
Henry killed were facts not affected by
her statement. - Several witnesses tes

for . beating him and biting his finger
off.
The Senate , sub-committee went to
the residence of. Eliza Pinckston at
noon to take her tostimony, but found
her laboring under such intense ner
vous excitement that theidea was
abandoned for the present. Th people
with whom she lived said a persen had
called there this morning and excited
her by telling her that the people from
Ouachita parish were coming to testify
numerous things against her in refer
ence to her children. Other proceed
