The Select Committee on the Powers and Privileges of the House in regard to tbe counlin of the electoral vote were instructed to inqure whether any elec toral votes were cast by United States officials or by persons laboring under political disabilities, and what oughttp be done with them. A select committee was ordered to inquire into the corrupt and improper coduct of the Board- of Police Com missioners of Washington. A bill pass ed abolishing the board and transfer ing its duties to the district commis sioners. A resolution requiring the Judiciary Committee to report within two days a constitutional amendment, prohibit ing the payment of War Claims to any but loyal pcrsonB, failed for. want of two thrids majority, 110 to 65. A resolu tion offered by Mills of Texas, denounc ing the lawless invasion by the armed force of the soil of any State or territory, no matter under whatpretextasameng the greatest of crimes, was lost for want of two thirds majority 107 to 82. Levi Lucky, formerly private secre tary to Grant, was nominated Secretary of Utah. There was a large attendance and resolutions were unani mously adopted to recognize Hampton as Governor, Simpson Lt Governor, and only such couaty officers as 'ap pointed by them, rand cheerfully pay twenty-five per ef last year's tax, and levy on the approaching tax under Hampton's Government.
