Her crew and passengers were safely landed. A tug has gone to tbe scene of the dis aster. The Dakota's passengers will sail on Saturday on the steamer Wisconsin. An Ohio editor, reporting an inteiv view .with the President, represents him as having 'great expectations ; among them the loss of Ohio to . the Republicans this fall, and the gain of South Carolina within two years, with Wade Hampton as the Republican candidate for Governor. The account concludes thus : "He also thought, as one of the fruits of his Southern pol icy, that Louisiana would be gathered into the Republican fold." At this point hia visitor asked the President if he did not believe that the Repub licans had carried Louisiana at the last election. He replied in the affirmative. . ''But," said his visitor, "they have cheated us out of it, aud they will do it again. If we do carry any of these Southern States, they won't let us have them."
