J., August 6. The Btri king ribbon weavers have resumed work in Sobliac's mill and Pelgram's mill on the new scale of prices nearly the same as last year. The Standard's Pesth correspondent telegraphs : "Fi nancial arrangements being complet ed, the mobilization of ninety thous sand men:' will take place in a few days." - The Standard's Bucharest dispatch. reports that a Turkish division from Lavatz occupied Selvi unopposed. The Turfes at Plevna received a re inforcement of four thousand Albani an cavalry. " The Fast's special from Woolwich says that an order was received at the royal arsenal Saturday, for five hun dred tons of shell to be sent to Malta by private ships. The whole will be embarked during Monday and Tues day. The Times Bucharest correspondent gives a report of the occupation of Sel- vi by the lurks, and adds : "The Rus sian forces are between Selvi and Tur nova, holding strong defensive posi tions. General Gourko is charged with the duty of protecting the southern outlets of the Balkan passes." The Daily News Vienna correspond) ent sends the following : "Strategeti- cally, the most importantnews from the seat of war, is the occupation of Selvi. This exposes Turnova and the passes. General Gourko 's corps is said to be short of provisions and ammunition. Eustchuk is no longer invested from the land side, and communication with Shumla were opened yesterday. The Burning: of Blooded Stock. Greenwich, Vt., August 6.- The Martin House stables have been burn ed. The men narrowly escaped. Thirty-six horses were burned. The follow ing 13 the list of property destroyed and the owners : Chas J Osborn, one span and carriage, $5,000; Mr Trow bridge, one horse and buggy, $7,300; J M Pinkney, one span and three car riages $5,000; S C Evaus, one span and carriage, $3,000; Mrs James Harper, one span and carriage, $1,530 ; Wm Bird, ne span and carriage, $3,000 ; Matthew Leary, one span and two car riages, $5,000 ; Wm Lattimer, one span and carriage, $1,000; J H Bonnel, one horse and buggy, $500; C F Timpson, one horse and phaeton, $800; John Abindrath, one horse and buggy, $400; J K Bangs, one saddle horse, $300; G H Whithauss, one horse and phaeton, $500. There is no insurance except on Mr Whithauss' horse. Mr Geo W Hoff man, proprietor, lost about ten thou sand dollars. The fire was incendiary. MEXICO. Diaz Attempting to Strengthen Himself. City of Mexico, July 31. President Diaz is making strenuous efforts to es tablish himself in the good opinion of foreign powers; especially the United States. His attitude regarding the border question was taken with the view of sustaining his personal dignity before the Mexican people; he courts the good disposition of the United States toward himself personally, and would apparently agree with pleasure to everything proposed by the Ameriu can government. The suspicious tenor of certain newspapers which formerly opposed Jrresident Diaz has mod er. ated, and some journals now mildly approve the good intentions and point out me advantages oi nis administra tion. These counts are all alike in form, except that the name of a different distiller is inserted in each, charging him with an unlawful removal of distilled spirits," and also charging defendant with aiding and abetting in the removal of said spirits, which act rendered him liable to" the above penalty of fourteen hdndred dol lars. . : " , ! The Secre tary of State made application to the Vice Chancellor for an injunction to prevent the Citizen Fire Insurance Company of this city from doing fur ther business. The Vice-Chancellor granted the application, and ordered the company to show cause on the 10th why the injunction skould riot be made permanent. The application is based on the insufficiency of assets.. The company has recently suffered heavy losses by fire, having, it is alleg ed, taken imprudent ruks.
