At the moment of the President's arrival Mrs. Morton, Gov. Burbank, the Senator's brother-in-law, at whose house he is lying, and Dr. Thompson," were in the sick chamber conversing with Senator Morton and reading to him. The Pre sident and party, on arriving were ushered into the parlor, whence, after a few moments conversation, the Presi dent alone was conducted to the sick chamber of the great statesman. On his entering the room Mrs. Morton and Gov. Burbank retired, leaving the two to converse in the presence of Dr. Thompson, the physician; only. The .President became immediately and very visibly affected, and, advancing to the bedside, took the Senator's hand in his, and, addressing him in ' affec ionate terms, stooped over and kissed him upon the forehead, the tears at the same time falling from-his eyes upon the Senator s pillow. Senator Morton responded, addressing the Pres ident byname, and f expressing his great gratification at meeting him. The President then referred to Sen ator Morton's condition, congratulating him upon the fact that his severe ill ness had but little effect upon his usu al appearance of health, notwithstand ing that he bad, during the past few weeks, taken no solid food. The Sen tor spoke cheerfully of his situation and prospects, and said: "I feel to day, for the first time since my Bick ness, as though I were going to get well.
