"tweed. The Examination Resumed-He lets ont some Secrets and In. jtires some Churactei s. New York, Sept. 29. Tweed's ex amination before the Aldermanic in vestigating committee, has been re sumed. Witness testified; as alread v mentioned, that-he paid money for the passage of the tax levy to Senators Graham, Broad, Woodin and Cote; paid each cf them" tor vote for some bills that year, and he thought it was for voting for that tax levy. Kegarding the election of 1868. wit- ueeg said that year was a great year for naturalizations. John A Griswold was a candidate. Tweed had control of the political machinery, that is, inspectors of elections, &c. He re membered the closing of that elec tion. Most all of the notabilities of tbe'Democratic party were with him that evening at in e Metropolitan - Ho tel. ,f Hall, Sweeney and himself caused telegrams to be sent out during tne'day lor the purpose oi keeping th telegraph wires going to prevent counties throughout the State knowing what we were doing in the city. Wit ness did not think that there was ever an honest election in New York. "The result of the aggregate votes in the city and county in 1869, was probably caused by inspectors of elections, and not by voters, and we took means to effect that result. One suggestion was to, if necessary, telegraph the whole Bible all over the State, especially in "Lawrence county, where they were beating us three to one, as we believed, in order to keep the wires going, and the outside from knowing how we were getting on in New York." Mr Townsend said that the line of examination had wandered away from the directions of the resolution under which the investigation was ordered. They were drifting into political mat ters. Mr Coles said the object was to find out who had received money, either through the tax levy or other means, as they could be sued and the money recovered. The committee then ad journed until Saturday next. THE INDIAN CONFERENCE. THE WARLIKE NEZ PERCES. Still Pillaging and Plundering in the West. Washington, September 29. The Indian council yesterday indicated a determination on the part of the Gov ernment that the Indians shall come to the Missouri riyer this winter, with the provision that their lands shall be surveyed, and they may select their homes next year. It appears from the President s speech that the adherents of Crazy Horse and Tame Deer have gone north, and the President intimates that it is necessary at present to herd the friendly Indians with a view to the fierce war against the hostiles, which term includes all who are not ,under the control of agents Stores for the Indians have been sent to the Missouri river, and the Indians have the, alter native ot going tq their stores, or going without them, lhe Indians seem apprehensive1 that if theV leave1 their homes for the Missouri river, they will not be allowed to ge back. lhe indications are not tavorable to an early termination oine moian troubles. Chamber of Deputies i Placarded. London, Sept. 29. The Times Paris dispatch says :J,' The list of the official candidates for election to the Chamber of Deputies, is all but completed, and placards are being issued by the pre fects for posting in the various arron dissments. The placards are headed, " Candidates of the ; Government, of Marshal MacMahou, President of the Republic." Analyses of these lists show that the marshal's candidates are divided into' 131 Legitimists, 83 Or leanists and 298 Bonapartists. The remaining 20 Aamdissments being in and around Paris, are without any official candidates. There may, of course, be some slight errors in this classification, but there can be no question as to the general result, viz., that the President of the Republic has been made to ask the electors to re turn a Chamber composed of three fifths Bonapartists and two-fifths Roy alists." Trouble at an Indfau Agency. - - f St. Paul, September 29. A special says : "Owing to the Indian superin tendent Kimball having ordered Father Timizin, a Catholic missionary, to leavethe White Erth agency, on ac count of the violation of agency rules, the priest took refuge in his church, rung the bell to summon the Indians friendly to him, and with them is now holding the church in armed resistance to the authority of Kimball. The ln dians are considerably excited, and consequently Kimball telegraphs to KFort Snellingfor aid. The Indians are iot aggressive, but watchful and suspi cious.
