my Dccron.
Of all the friends I knew in spring
Who helped to make the moments fly,
To whom now closest do I cling,
And vow to part would be to die?
My doctor.
Of all those genial spirits gay,
The wits, the wags, the beaux, the belles,
Who is the only one to-day
Can charm me with his magic spells?
My doctor.
Though thieves and sharpers be my dread,
Within whose clutch do I lie still,
To all his pillage bow my head,
And let him peel me if he will?
My doctor.
Who plasters me from head to feet,
And shaves my head and draws my gore,
And rates me if I dare to bleat,
And yet I love him more and more!
My doctor.
And when I'm boiling In my bath,
If I but give the clothes a kick, .
Who pours the vials of his wrath
And makes me drink 'em mighty quick,
My doctor.
And when I scorn the nauseous drink
Who chills me with his awful frown,
And as be tips the nurse a wink,
Says "Hold her nose and pour it down?"
My doctor.
Who pokes his finger In my eye,
And pounds my thorax like a drum;
And asks me, If I dare to cry,
"Do you want to go to kingdom come?"
My doctor.
And when I die, and go to Heaven,
What name will reach the angels quick?
"Sweet Saints," I'll whisper, when forgiven,
"Bring Dr. Armand, I feel sick!
My doctor.

Dean Stanley in Richmond.
Richmond Dispatch, 4th,
This celebrated divine' and author, ac
companied by Mr. Harper, son of an
English bishop, arrived in this city from
Washington yesterday afternoon. The
two gentlemen were met at the depot
by Mr. Archer Anderson, whose guests
they are. They got out of the coach as
soon as the train stopped, and stepped
into the carriage in waiting for them,
and were almost out of sight before the
crowd was informed who they were.
The Dean is sixty-three years of age.
Though a great and good man he is not
a big one. In fact, he is almost below
the medium height, and slight of figure
and a little bowed ; but he walks
and talks quickly, going to show that
study rather than weight of years has
bent him. The Dean has a straight,
prominent nose, steel-blue eyes, iron
gray side-whiskers, and grayish hair.
Yesterday he wore a black felt hat,
the crown of which was crowded down
until it touched his venerable head, and
a suit of black of clerical cut. He had
in his right hand when he stepped down
upon the platform a little satchel, which
Colonel Anderson offered to take, but
which he retained, saying, with a beam
ing smile,
" Oh, I always carry that."
The Dean, whose full name is Arthur
Penhryn Stanley, is a son of the Bishop
of Norwich. lie was bom in Hamp
shire, England, and was educated at
Bugby and Oxford. At the latter insti
tution he obtained the Baloil College
scholarship and presently the Newdi
gate prize for an English poem called
the " Gypsies." After that prizes came
thick and fast, and in 1856 he was Se
lect Preacher at Oxford. Later he was
secretary of the Oxford University Com
mission, Canon of Canterbury, Regius
Professor of Ecclesiastical History at
Oxford, Canon of Christ's church, chap
lain to the Bishop of London, and Anal
ly Dean of Westminster, a position be
stowing the very aristocracy of church
honor to the holder. He writes a book
about once a year. The first was the
life of Dr. Arnold, followed by " Stories
and Essays on the Apostolic Age," and
so on in a theological way. It is riot
too much to say that Dean Stanley is
one of the most widely known of all
the clergy of England.
Colonel Anderson gave a dinner in
honor of the Dean last evening, at
which a number of prominent clergy
men and other citizens were present.

Is the great remedy for corpulency. It is purely
vegetable and perfectly harmless. It acts on the
food in the stomach, preventing its conversion Into
fat. Taken according to directions, it will reduce
a fat person from 2 to 5 pounds a week.
In placing this remedy before the public as a pos
itive cure for obesity, we do so knowing its ability
to cure, as attested by hundreds of testimonials, of
which the following from a lady In Columbus, O.,
Is a sample: " Gentlemen Your Anti-Fat was duly
received. I took it according to directions and it
reduced me 5 pounds. I was so elated over the re
sult that I Immediately sent to Ackerman's drug
store after the second bottle." Another, a physi
cian, writing for a patient from Providence, R. I.,
says : " Four bottles have reduced her weight from
199 pounds to 192 pounds, and there Is a general
improvement in health." A gentleman writing
from Boston," says: " Without special change or at
tention to diet, two bottles of Allan's Anti-Fat re
duced me four and one-quarter pounds." The well
known Vholes le Druggists. Smith, DooLrrrLE &
Smith, of Boston, Mass., write as follows : "Allan's
Anti-Fst has reduced a lady In our city seven pounds
tn three weeks." A gentleman In St Louis writes:
"Allan's Anti-Fat reduced me twelve pounds In
three weeks, and altogether I have lost twenty-five
pounds since commencing Its use." Messrs. Pow

N. write: "To the Proprietors of Allan's Anti
Fat: Gentlemen The following report Is from the
lady who used Allan's Anti-Fat 'It (the Anti-Fat)
had the desired effect, reducing the fat from two to
five pounds a week until I had lost twenty-five
pounds. I hope never to regain what I have lost' "

potent remedy for rheumatism. Sold by druggists,

BOTANIC MEDICINE CO., Prop'rs, Buffalo, N. Y,
OMAN.
By an Immense practice at the World's Dispen
sary and Invalids' Hotel, having treated many thou
sand cases of those diseases peculiar to woman, I
have been enabled to perfect a most potent and
positive remedy for these diseases.
To designate this natural specific, I have named It
DR. PIERCE'S FAVORITE PRESCRIPTION.
The term, however, Is but a feeble expression of
my high appreciation of its value, based upon per
sonal observation. I have, while witnessing Its
positive results to the special diseases Incident to
the organism of woman, singled It out as the cli
max ob crownhto gem of mt medical cabejeb,
On its merits, as a positive, safe, and effectual rem
edy for this class of diseases, and one that will, at
all times and under all circumstances, aS kindly, I
am willing to stake my reputation as a physician;
and so confident am I thai It wUl not disappoint the
most sanguine expectations of a single Invalid lady
who uses it for any of the ailments lor which I re-
command, it that I offer and sell It under A POSI
TIVE. GUARANTEE. (For conditions, see pamph
let wrapping bottle.)
The following are among those diseases in which'
my Favoretb Prescription has worked cures, as
if by magic, and with a certainty never before at
tained by my medicine: Leucorrhoea, Excessive
Flowing, Painful Monthly Periods. Sumnesslons
when from unnatural causes, : Irregularities, Weak
Back, Prolapsus, or Falling of the Uterus, AjiteveF
slon and Retroversion, Partng-dQwn Qensatlons,
Internal Heat, Nervous DeprejggtauV ability, Des
pondency, Threatened Ifisearriage, Chronic Con
gestion, Iriflammalien and Ulceration of the Uterus,
Impoteaoy, Barrenness, or Sterility, and Female
Weakness. I do not extol this medicine as a "cure
all, " but it admirably fulfills A singleness or PT7R
POSB, being a most perfect specific In an chreiue
diseases of the sexual system of woman,, ' It will
not disappoint, nor will It do harnj, 1& "ajpv state or
