TEN DAY
i A! A .1
Waiting lor the Frost.
Harper's Weekly. i
Still lifts the lily In the mUd, still air
Its cup of perfumed snow,
And, star-like, gleam the myrtle blossoms where
The Autumn roses glow:
This fragrant beauty seems the mask of Beatti;
The whispering south wind Is his poisoned breath;
We weary for these warm, bright days to end;
The summer ttngere at what f earful eostf. ! ,. . .
O pitying God! In mercy to us send
The white gift of Thy frost !
From its cold touch the pestilence will fly,
And plague-shut houses will their doors unfold,
And mourners who have! seen their loved ones die,
Yet, shuddering, feared their helpless hands to
hold,
Will seek, with tears, the graves from which to
day, Love, terror-haunted, trembling turns away.
All powerless, Lord, at Thy dear feet we bowt i . '
If Thou delay how many lives are lost! .
We ask a blessing never prized till now
The white gift of Thfr frost; t;

When, many years ago, an eccentric
New England merchant sent at lot of
copper warming pans to Jamaica on;
speculation, the folly of the act, which
everybody laughed aty was turned into
a profitable venture. The Jamaica

Handsome price, broke off the lids and

whicli' tlie !ansered' a3mirably: The
rgood people of the North who have
made gilts of clothing -to the yenow
lever sufferers at theSottJi haVe uncon
sciously sent things there which are as
little adapted to the climate as warming
nans to Jamaica, but '.'Which, unlike
the latter, cannot be put to as practical
a use. Amonff the thimrs eenerously
sent to Memphis for distribution were
articles of clothings that were well
adapted to protect the person from the
rigor of Northern winters, but altogeth
er out of place at the South. In some
of the boxes were sealskin victorines
and double-lined buckskin gloves, both
capital things to Wear when the ther
mometer falls to zero, but too warm
for comfort on the lower Mississippi.
Still, the intention of the donors was
good, and their kindness quite is deserv
ing of grateful recognition as that of
others who had more thoughtfully
adapted .their gifts to the wants of
the sufferers and the nature of the climate.
Systems toned and jrenovated with Hostetter's

which is the natural effect of: the increased bodily
vitality which they prince. .Nervous symptoms
disappear In consequence of Hie use - of this medi

a premature decay , of the physical energies are
averted. Dyspepsia, liver complaints, rheumatic
ailments, urinary and uterine irregularities, malar
rial diseases, and many other disordered conditions
of the system, are remedied by the Bitters.
A Remarkable Result.
. Tt makes no difference how";many physicians, or
Jhow muchTrkeoiclne ypu have tried, it is now an es

cases of Lung Diseases, ft ls; true there are' yet

cents. Sold by all druggists In America.
An Astonishing Fact.
A large proportion of he American ipeople are
to-day dying from the effects f Dyspepsia or dis
ordered liver. The result of these diseases upon
the masses of Intelligent and valuable people is
most alarming, making life actually a burden In
stead of a pleasant .existence rot, enjOyment and
usefulness as It Ought to be. There is no good rea

and skeptldshi, tafce the advice of "Druggists and
iSrour friends, and try one bottle of Green's August

bottles of this medicine have been 'given away to
try its virtues, with satisfactory results in every case.

It makes the plainest face beautlfuL
It gives the complexion a dazzling purity and
makes the neck, face and arms appear graceful,
rotund, and plump.
It makes a matron of 35 or 40 look not, more
than 20 years old, and changes the rustic maiden
into a cultivated city belle. :
The MafffwOa Balm removes all blemishes and ea&
