How the Chinese Stab. Fr6m the San Francisco Call. About two years ago a Chinese wo man, named Quy Ngun, living in the old Baptist church building on Wash ington street, was murderously assault ed by'a Chinamaji because she refused to live with him. The assailant stabbed her in the back with a large , knife, , which he left in the wound. Several . persons, attracted to her room by cries lor help, went in and attempted to re move the knife, but found that the blade had been driven into the bone and was immovable. One man, in endeavoring to take the knife out, stood on the bea on which the woman was lying, and, taking hold of the hardle of the knife with both hands, pulled, but was unable to extract the weapen, and i in pulling lifted the woman from the bed. Final ly a physician who had been sent for came, and, by placing his knees against the woman's back and drawing on the knife with all his might, succeeded in exi racting it. In course of time the wck 1 man recovered from the effects of. the wound, and the man who stabbed her was. arrested and sent to the State prison for five, years. Poifning His fanary. The pure air seemed to have an effect. In a Tlay or wo it was heard singing though in a weak and tremulous voice. Washington, January 15. It is pretty clearly understood ,tKat ext Monday will see a long arid stormy debate upon the resolution which will be proposed by Mr. Potter for the investigation of the so-called cipher dispatches. Earlier iri the session sucli a. resolution would have passed without amendment, de bate .or division. As Gen. Butler has made 'a formal request of Mr. Potter that an hour's time be given the former in, which to Rebate the proposed inquiry, it is extremely, likely that an entirely ew. light will be thrown on the subject as far as the Republicans are concerned. It is considered , extremely doubtful whether the resolution can obtain the twofthirds yet Reeded to force it to a passage. , In the committee the Repub lican members declined to vote, , and similar iwtion in the House would leave thattJsffift(!iiftTa quorum : ,nor would ifbefpossible flfiwwitti the number of rjSjeiBbers dfelid'Bi(liIl, to obtain a quo rum made up of Democratic members.
