The 20th Elsewhere, t ' One of the Wilmington papers re marks that there seems to be a general desire on the part of all that the mer chants of that city close their stores and that there .be a general suspension of business on the 20th, in honor of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independ ence.1 Wilmington hass always mani fested a commendable interest in this L event, and we trust that other towns and cities will display the same spirit; they will be h onoring their State and themselves.' Adjutant General Jones has ordered a general inspection and parade of the State Guard on that day, so that it will doubtless be more or less observed, by the military at least. Char lotte expects a large crowd to join her ir. the annual festivities, and will heart ily welcome all visitors from her own or other States. Equalization r 'jjitilradVuV. ) For some time past the subject of forming an equal basis for taxing rail- wd property in the different counties ;hrmrgh Wbiell the Carolina Central Railroad runs, lias been under discus-- sion by the commissioners of the seve ral counties, and some of the boards have been in correspondence with each other on the subject, with a view to ar ranging a meeting for this purpose. The board of Mecklenburg county has. expressed, its ? acquiesence sin the plan and suggested? Charlotfe as the 'place of the proposed meeting. A letter has been received recently from the com missioners of jOolambus county, agree ing to this proposition, and stating that several boards of adjoining counties had expressed a willingness to meet here. The letter suggests the 17th of June, and it is likely that both the time and place mentioned will be selected. It is designed that each board shall be represented by at least one member. -The object is an important one and it is to be hoped the plan will be carried out.
