that Dr. Whitehead did not think it

Railroad Notes.
The Air-Line road will soon put down
other switch tracks at the depot m this
city. This doesn't ilook much like a
union depot. By the way, what has be
come of that little project?
'The Henderson ville Courier is anx

railroad to run a free excursion to Ilen
dersouville when the road is finished to
that point, and wants the Charlotte peo
ple to come up and see the glorious
west, promising to "set up' a barbecue.
At the late meeting of the board of
directors of the Western North Caro
lina Railroad, President Wilson stated
'that six miles of the grading on the
western side of the Blue Kidge was
about completed,' and expressed the
opinion that by the month of August
the cars would be running through the
Swannanoa tunnel and within eleven
miles of Asheville.

The third annual convention of the
Young Men's Christian i Association of
North Carolina will assemble in Salis
bury, Thursday evening, June 26th, and
continne in session Friday and Satur
day, closing with special religious ser
vices on the Sabbath following.
Two years ago, in this city, a little
band joined in the exercises of our first
annual gathering. We were few in
number, but came together in harmoni
ous council, believing that the future
would witness the rapid development
of our organization and that our efforts
would be blessed. After the lapse of a
year, our second convention was held
in Greensboro where our most sanguine
expectations were seen to have been
fulfilled. Fourteen associations, were
represented by. nearly two .score of
earnest enthusiastic young men. Our
meeting together on that occasion was
delightful in the .extreme, and an
impetus was given to the work, the full
scope of which cannot be definitely
ascertained until the re-assembling of
our association in convention at Salis
bury. ?
Each regularly constituted associa
tion will be allowed four delegates, but
associations whose active membership
include any persons who are not mem
bers of an Evangelical church, are ex
cluded by an article in the Constitution
of the State Association, from repre
sentation in the convention.
Any representative man from a com
munity where there is no formal
organization will be received and
accredited as a delegate on presentation
of a certificate from his pastor, stating
that he is a member in good and
regular standing, of some Evangelical
church. Ave earnestly desire that
every association in the State " shall
send at least one delegate. L,et us
noma together, brethren, earnestly
desirinc to nromote the welfare of
vminsr men. and with ardent zeal for
the honor of the Master, and His
blessinsrs will surely crown our efforts
Our Salisbury brethren have extended
to us a cordial invitation, and delegates
will receive a generous welcome to the
hosnitalities of that citv.
We will make application 10 uie
