A precious gift there came to me,
A tmy, fragile thing
With piping note of melody,
Like bird unfledged of whig.
I folded it within my breast,
And Messing asked of Him
Nor lands, nor gold, nor Jewels rare,
But purity within.
The years fled fey Of weary pace,
Too full of anxious care;
No flowers blossomed on my path,
Nor hope, nor Joy was fhere.
Lay wrapped in frost and haze
I woke the tiny bird had flown,
A maiden met my gaze.
