Quite a a number of visitors are present to-day. Governor Jarvis and wife, I see in the congregation this morning. On motion the treasurer of the Con ference was instructed to pay over to the joint board of finance 6o50.00, inter est accredited on the conlerence lund. A communication from the Grand "Lodge of Masons was read to the Con ference relative to fostering the interest of the Oxford orph?n asylum. On mo tion of Dr. J. B. Rob bins, Esq., a commiitee to whom was referred the communication of the Grand Lodge of Masons. Dr. McFerrm took up an additional subscription for the Nashville House, amounting to $300.00. 'This additional subscription was to meet any deficien cies of tbe 83,000 already raised. When Dr. McFerrin was through. Governor T. J. Jarvis was introduced to the Conference. The Governor was cordially greeted, and remarked that he felt very grateful for this compliment; that 'when he remembered that his sainted father was a Methodist p-each-er for forty years, it only served to in crease the compliment paid him this morning. Said he: "I always feel at home with and among Methodist preachers." The Governor was seated withi a the altar and looked like he felt at home, sure enough. " The resolution recommending the adoption of the llalei&rh Cliistian Advo cate as the organ of the Conference, was opposed by Rev. V llliam M. Robey. The opposition to the paper was not at all on personal relations, but because the paper did not reflect credit upon the great denomination it represents. The Rev. J. T. Bagwell opposed the paper as the organ or the Conference upon this ground. mere was a lively discussion upon this subject, in which, besides the gen tlemen already mentioned, the Revs. John R.
