The-President announced that the Raleigh' Acad emy of Medicine invited the society to meet at Raleigh. Dr. Hill, cf Rowan, extended an invitation to th3 society to meet at Salisbury. Dr. Lane said it wr s contemplated at the lastannual meeting that after meeting at Wilmington the next annual meeting should be at Ash e yille. Dr. Bahnson spoke in favor of Asheville, and finally, the question be ing put to the spciety, Asheville was se lected as the next place of meeting, by a vote of 21 to 20. On motion, the last Tuesday in May was appointed as the time. Dr. Haigh announced that Dr. Hicks having removed to Virginia, had ten dered his resignation as a member of the board of examiners, and that Dr. R. AXewis, of Raleigh, had been elected in his place. Dr. McDonald was announced as es sayist. A resolution thanking Dr. Grissom for the able address delivered by him before the society was adopted. The society then adjourned. A BefTfrfur'a Poodle Y The Qaulois is responsible for the fol lowing remarkable instance of canine sagacity : "A blind beggar was in the habit, some years since, of frequenting the Point des Sts: Peres, where he used to station himself with a clarinet and a very intelligent poodle. The place was well chosen and charitable contribu tions poured into the little wooden bowl which the dog held in his mouth. One day theblind man, ftho had reached an advanced age, was hot to be seen, . He had fallen ill, in fact,- and was unable tb pursue his avoCsCtibh. His faithful companion, however, continued to, fre quent the accustomed spot, and paaserse by, to whom he was familiar, under stood that his master was unwell, and, touched by his fidelity, dropped their pence into his bdwl ia increased num bers. Dr. Capehart lias caught at his two beaches 185,000 . sliad, besides countless rock, herring, etc. The State was able to secure over 8,000,000of shad eggs, and had remarkable success in hatching the fry. Millions haye been placed in the streams, 700,000 having been released in theNeuse alone. Tues day Mr. WiUiarasi?laced in this stream 200,000 of the shad fry, making a total of 550.000 placed in that stream by him self. He reports .the work at Avoca as having been far more satisfac tory in all respects than ever be fore. ..
