The object was to see if .all the parties could not agree to a temporary organization. After a full explanation on the part of those op posed to the unit rule of their position and strength, of which they felt sure, Conkling yielded the naming of the temporary chairman to th,e anti-Grant men, pledging himself thit Cameron would carry out the agreement in good faith.
