ELCei'Olt IL VOTE Of NKW YOUH. 8tep Bciug Taka f Contest Aha Col. BliUiton Duncan, having paid his nspects to General Hancock on Gov ernw' Island, was met by a represent tati ve of the Star, to whom he ' readily jjave his views relative to the situation of affairs, politically. In regard to General Hancock's position, he fcaid: "It is one of absolute silence in re gard to the whole matter. He refuses to be interviewed, and declines to ex press any -opinions. His correct posi tion1 is that the entire subject has; pass ed away from his control, and that he cannot have a word to say or an act to perform in regard to any investigations which must be shaped by the people, and passed upon by the constituted au thorities, State and Federal,- and that the action of Congress in counting the electoral vote will be final and binding upon him and all others, just as he ex pressed it in his 1877 letter to Sherman. It is utterly false that General Han cock, wrote any letter to Barnum dis approving of an investigation, and I presume it is equally false that be has written a letter to General Alvard. Both of these dispatches are eent by the Associated Press, which is in the interest of the Radicals; and the mo tive is patent to use all influences to stifle an investigation and exposure of any corrupt praotices by Radicals or ireaonery on me part 01 any counter ed Democrats. Fleming, An gola, Ind. , A. aHiapected murderer, Raleigh News and Observer, Yesterday we published an account of a horrible murder in Mark's Creek township, in which a colored man had been shot by some one unknown, ,and instantly killed. Yesterday afternoon some deputy sheriffs brought and placed in jail here Dick Morgan, colored, who stands accused of being the murderer of Bunch. The later details of the crime are that Bunch was a married man, but that Morgan had alienated 'his wife's affections. After midnight Sat urday night, Bunch was seated near the fire in the house of Anne Ellis, a negress, when a gun was discharged through a crevice in the log house, and thirty squirrel shot were lodged in bis head. He fell from the chair, a corpse. Some suspicion seems to have at once fallen on Morgan, and at 9 o'clock Sun day morning, he was found at Wake field and arrested by four colored men, Turner Bunch, Sam Merritt, Hester Merritt and Bythan Robinson. Morgan was taken before J ustice Pres. Page, and tried on Monday. The evidence was deemed sufficient to demand Mor gan's being held; and; so he was sent to ja.il, A Jndgea Singular Error. An Indianapolis dispatch states that it has been ' ascertained that the Su preme Court of Indiana committed a most singular blunder in the decision, given on Thursday last, reversing the judgment of death against Mrs. Brown, convicted of the murder of her fcus hand. , J ustice Hawk waa charged with the examination of the papers and the preparation of the decision. His opin ion adopted by the court, reversed the case on the ground of the inoompeten Cy of two jurors Benjamin Tyner ftnq Jackson Dawson. It now tvirna out that these two men. wre the only ones of the wtea$panV sworn, and upon their weye challenged.
