The surgeons regard the President's condition this morning with increased satisfaction and encouragement. The parotid swelling has steadily improved in appearance, and it is thought the pa tient has in all other respects gained ground slightly during the past twenty- four hours. He is thus far having a quiet, comrortaoie day. Among the members of the cabinet and the Presi dent's personal friends there is a crow ing feeling of encouragement and con fidence and it seems to be the general impression that by Saturday or Sunday when the glandular swelling shall have ceased to be a hinderance the patient will enter upon a stage of convales cence. .
