A negro named Holloway shot and fatally injured Sid Ferrel, near Durham, on Tuesday. Holloway went to a field where Ferrell was working and de manded some money due him. The other not pacing, Holloway fired at him with a shot gun. He then fled and has not been captured. Raleigh is to have a large bonded warehouse. It is asserted that the project of a cotton factory for Raleigh is an assured fact. A special term of Guilford County Superior court has been ordered to begin July 10. One of the finest food fish, the Spanish mackerel, is now to be seen daily in market. A committee of aldermen has been ap pointed to investigate charges made against street Commissioner Andrews. Mr. William Dunn, of Craven county, has sold eight acres of Irish potatoes of the Snowflake variety, at a very high price, 88 per barrel. Some of the pota toes weighed eighteen ounces. Cozart L was recomended as a suitable candidate for Congress, and. after a remarkably vain speech he announced his belief that he could be elected. Mr. John T. Williams, of Black River Township, Cumberland county, writes to the Fayettevilter Exkmmer, that, Ms children have thirteen lineal ancestoi s living, consisting of two parents, four grand parents, six great grand parents, and one great great grand mother. This is authentic, and surpasses any statement of the kind we have ever heard. A juvenile tramp, only ten years old, a perfect cosmopolite, made his appear ance here on yesterday. He comes from Norfolk. He hails from Florence, S. C, and says his name is John Rich. He says he has an aunt near Charlotte and another near Raleigh. He is a sharp youngster, has swung around a good deal in this part of the moral vinyard, and has lots of cheek. While here the guard house has been his head quarters. The ponce are trying to una out who he is. They had a pea guessing match in Winston recently. There were 2,709 guesses. The jar contained 20.118 peas, and the exact number was guessed by a colored boy named James Spears. The next best guess was 20.113, and the next 20,109. Mr. J. C. English, mother of Hon. Wm. H. English, of Indiana, died Saturday, in her 85th year. Rer. John P. Knox, D. D, for fifty years a Presbyterian minister, died Sat urday at his home, on Long Island, N Y. The case of Postmaster W. N. Taft, of Charleston, S. C, charged with inter fering with the registration of voters, has been sent to the grand jury for con sideration. The Princess Louise, who was a pas senger for Quebec on the steamship Sarmatian, visited the steerage while making the ocean voyage and made a thorough inspection of the accommo dations for female passengers. The jury in the case of Erber and Stickler, at Little Rock, Ark., against R. G. Dunn & Co., returned a verdict of one cent damages, the judge holding that th'reports of the mercantile ageL cy made in good faith, were privileged communications. Edward H. Frames was shot and killed Saturday night on John street, near Greenmount cemetery, in Balti more, while responding to a dry of distress from a woman. John Hopkins and' John Dignan have been arrested for the shooting. The Sultan of Turkey feels able to settle the Egyptian troubles himself and has so advised the powers. ThS Turkish commissioners are en route for Cairo. Russia has consented to 'partici pate in the proposed Constantinople conference. Gen. Sherman, Chief Justice Waite, J usuce Gray and several otbjers pur pose taking an extensive western trip this summer, and will leave some time next month. Ex-Governor Moses, of South Carolina, Pleads Guiltr. of Petit Larceny and Goes to the Penitentiary for Six Months. New York, June 6. Franklin J Moses, ex-Governor of South Carolina pleaded guilty to day in the Court of General Sessions to petit larceny. The plea was accepted by the District At torney and Judge Gildersleave sen tenced Moses to the penitentiary for six months. Moses who is 4 years of age and claims to reside in West 24th street, was indicted for obtaining by fraudulent representations $32 from Dr. Nathan Bozman, of 5th Avenue, on February 10th.
