The Other Side ol the Case. To the Editor of The Observer. In your Wednesday's issue wai an ac count of a difficulty which, took place between Jas McDonald, and his daugh ter, and myself and brother, SL Thorn burg, which I think does us injustice. In the item it is stated that the daugh ter of Mr McDonald was "knocked down," which is incorrect, and that Capt Dickson and "sheriff Henderson proved to be "good Samaritans," by their timely arrival. My brother, S L Thornburg, struck Mr McDonald for an insult and I took his part in the fight. Miss McDonald came to the assistance of her father and attempted to take a piece of a bar post away from me, and in tbe struggle for its possession she tell down, not be ing injured in the least. Capt Dickson never got out of his buggy, and the "Pinchgut" "sheriff" took little or no part in the affair. Respectfully, F. B. The Festival at Laurinbnrg. nyThe; festival .given this week by the young ladies of the Baptist church in Laurinufg, was ' quite a successful onereslrltin in securing a church fund of ; $200. , tA.mong the ladies who took aa active part in the festival and to rwbose efforts its success was due, were Mrs Df Stewart, Mrs Baker, Mrs J H Trimble, and Mrs Lucas, and Misses Mary Stewart, Sallie Stewart, Sallie Lu eaBMollie Hines, Nola Williams, Mary . PettewaV. Minnie ' Moore and Eva Woody. Miss Annie Petteway kept the poatoffice and a most charming post mistress 'she made. In the raffling, Mr Archie. Johnston won the first silver "cup, Miss Ida Meachum the second, and Mr Pette way the third. Mr J Lucas won the silver butter dish. The music was f urnisbed by the Laurinburg band, ;ied by Prof J W Philips, of Fayette- yille. .. Among the incidents may be mentioned the feat of Mr D KF Ever itt, who got away with five quarts of oysters. An exceedingly pretty and vi vacious young lady had all the boys charmed and paying every attention to her the whole night, treating and flirt ing, until about time the festival closed, they discovered that their fair charmer was none other than a youthful boy, dressed. Dowdered and primped fit to kilL The festival was a most pleasant one, and was a credit to the ladies who managed it. The West Point Terminal Annual Meeting of the Stockholders. Who is Mrs. Wlnslow as this question Is frequently asked, we will sim ply say that she is a lady who for upwards of for ty years, has untiringly devoted her time and tal ents as a Female Physician and nurse, principally among children. She has especially studied the constitution and wants of this numerous class, and, as a result of this effort, and practical knowl edges, obtained In a lifetime spent as nurse and physician, she has compounded a Soothing Syrup, for children teething. It operates like magic giving rest and health, and Is moreover, sure to regulate the bowels. In consequence of this ar ticle, Mrs. Winslow is becoming world-renowned as a benefactor of her race; children certainly do rise np and bless her; especially Is this the case in this city. Vast quantities of the Soothing Syrup are dally sold and used here. We think Mrs. Winslow has immortalized her name by this in valuable article, and we sincerely believe thous ands of children have been saved from an early grave by its timely use, and that millions yet un born will share its benefits, and unite In calling her blessed. No mother has discharged ber duty to ber suffering little one, in our opinion, until she has given it the benefit of Mrs. Wlnslow's Soothing Syrup. Try It, mothers try it now. Ladles' Visi tor.
