Professor Alexander-' Dewolsky, the music teacher recently arrested upon a charge of 'incest preferred against him by his daughter, committed suis cide last ilight by Shooting. He was out on bail and the suicide was com mitted in his ' own house. He left several letters to his daughrer, his counsel, chief of police, and one long communication to the President and people of the United States. That to his daughter has not been made public, but the others have and in all of them 'he protests his innocence of the crime -charged by his daughter. He asserts that his daughter's mind is not strong and that she has been influenced" by designing persons to accuse hin in order to obtain his property; . He was a Mason, Odd Fellow, -Knight of Pythias and Knight of Honor.-' He was of Polish birth, but came to this country when a boy and had been a musician of consider Jte prominence and extensive travel. When he rwas arraigned on his daughtert i charges hte counsel stated in open court that his daughter had abandoned his house and taken with her four thousand dollars worth of dinifroijtds'and jewelry and that her charges had been-gotten up to further v a scheme' to 'get possession of the remainder of his property. He is rated at between $5,000 and $10,000 The powder magazine of the Vir ginia Military Institute was bio wn up last night. The magazine contained 6,000 pounds of cannon powder and the explosion was ternffic The win - - do wet of the Institute were shattered and lights puts out. Houses in Lex ington, a mile off were shaken to their foundation. The magazine, , which was built of brick, was total ly blown-away, Five cadets, who were dismissed from the Institute a week ago for having powder in their possession, are supposed to have ibiused the explosion.. - - i Ray Sentenced to the Penitentiary. - Raleigh, Deq. 4. At Lenoir today Ed. President and Vice President were received by the President of the Senate today, the first of which come by messenger was that of Pennsylvania; the first received by mail was that of New Hampshire. " "... A Decision of Interest to Journalists. f Boston, Dec. 4.Judge Blodgett today rendered his decision in the case of Jas. P. Frost and Daniel San-, ders, of the Boston Daily Globe, who were arrested charged with contempt ef court in refusing to disclose to .the grand jury the source of certain recent information about au jold murder case in this city. The judge's decision is in effect that the facts in the case did not warrant the commit ment of the journalists for contempt as the question was a narrow one, and resolved itself down to a ques tion whether or not the gentlemen should divulge the names of persons who had given them information.
