Prof: Hayes, superintendent of the IleidsvIJle Seminary and county super intendent of public instruction, was in vited to address the meeting. He sakl he had, by conversing with the people of 'Caswell. found they were eager for . outlet and was sure that the time for action had arrived. St ReldsvllU does not co-operate with these citizen In building a road of some xind, juan vIUs will, and the products of the rich f Arms In Caswell will find a market tn the Virginia city. He suggested that committee be appointed to make a prospectus of the plan which it seem ed' most feasible and that a oontrl- ' button for the expense of said com mittee should be taken. CASWELL COUNTr GREAT RE . , HOUItCKS. lr. P. B. Johnston said that Cas well county was full of enterprising progressive business men who desire aiv outlet. Dbey prefer to co-operate with their sister county's people, he said, but if we were not willing to Join hands with them, others were. He made a review of the natursl resources of the county and declared that. In lumber and tobacco. It was the wealth iest county in this section of the coun try, le said a road could be hiiilt from Beidsvllie ' to Thompsonville, Lenox Castle, Ashland. Cobb's Shops and Betbesda church. Locust Hill and Tanceyville, without a grade of any consequence and. by bearing slightly to tha left at Young's spring, there would hot be a stream to cross. Tbere are several mills In the vicinity of the proposed road which already have the necessary dams for use at the power plant.' He spoke of a great manv manufacturing enterprises which would spring up in fteldsville as a re sult of this new territory being con nected with, the town and said that Reldsvtlla would the1rav air ad rant age for manufacturing furniture over any. other point in the State. He averred that with a personal knowl edge of the section he referred to. he was sure that a dosen or two dozen factories of, large capacity could not work up the lumber there for a hun dred years. The tobacco interast of Caswell, he said, was even paramount to any other Interest. The immense crops of tobacco produced were now marketed In Danville, and by the con struction of the line It would he brought to the Reldsvllle market, making this the largest market in this section. SIN'GIXO IfEGROES? AT WORK, : I in v'.;- Mr. Hunter, Hupertntcnaent of eiqnad of Ionble-Track DoUders, Ha , a Merry Crew 1 no me of the Tunes That Are Song, Mr. Hunter, who far superintending; the work of double tracking from the square to the railroad on East Trade street for the Four C.'s, haa a. Jolly set of negroes, who work and sing or sing and work a negroes were wont to do in olden day. Yesterday morn ing Mr. Hunter and ten of the Afro- Americans were engaged in lifting the left hand track into its proper place. The road bed had been , prepared and the dfrt loosened so that the actual process of moving the track would not be difficult. Therefore, when the ten stalwart darkles placed their Iron spikes beneath the rails and prised together the track moved. The boss of a gang of negroes gets his best work when his squad keeps time to a tune. Mr, Hunter knows this, for he is aa old railroad builder, and he looked pleased yesterday when Isaiah Dixon, a coal black negro, with long, fierce moustache, would throw his lifter under the rail and say: "Ev'rybudy, "Let's squeeze em, "Let's squeeze 'em, squeeze 'em." And again; . "Ev'rybudy, "We'll give 'em ham, "We'll give em gravy, "We'll give 'em mutton, "An' we'll scramble 'em." Every time Iaalah uttered a line the boys shoved the track over a few Inches. Several men who should have been tn their place of business could not resist the temptation to listen to the singing and watch the work, Mr, Hunter declared that he would have a certain stretch in position by noon and he did It on the dot. ;a little further down the street, where a squad of negroes was pick ing up the macadam a negro was hura- mlnjr: - "Oal, I know you, "Rut des cant call yo' name." The refrain waa: "But des can't cull yo' name." The work went merrily on. With the Sick There was a slight change for the better In Dr. 1. W. Falson's condition yesterday. He was resting comfort ably last evening. HIh friends will be glad to learn that Mr. J. Watt Klrkpatrick, who receiv ed n third stroke of paralysis about i week ngo. Is somewhat Improved. Mr. L. W.
