Tha Durham lodge of dka, ffo. 668, have elected officers for the ensuing- term, The election took place at a regular meet ing of the lodge last night, the meeting holding until midnight or after. It was an Interesting and hard fought election, as there were several candi dates for the position of exalted ruler. There will be a meeting of the Con federate veterans of this county Sat urday, the main object of the meeting belli to discuss the question of at tending the next annual meeting of the veterans In New Orleans. It Is known that several will go from here and an effort Is being made to get Beveral more In the party and carry a goodly number from Durham. General Julian . Carr has gone to Atlanta where he will attend the meet ing and reunion of the "Blue and the (Jray which wllj be held to-morrow and next day. From Georgia comes the announce ment of the engagement of Mr. Thom as Johnston Jones, of this city, a mem ber of the firm of Pridgen & Jones, and Miss Margaret, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Stephenson, of Com merce, Ga. The marriage vows will be aald at the home of the young lady on April ISth. They wlU make their home In Durham. Wadesboro, March 27. It is the gen eral impression that the peach crop in this section ia totally destroyed. Rev. Donald Mclver has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Presbyte rian church at Burlington and will leave for that place the latter part of April. Mr. Mclver has been pastor of the Presbyterian church at this place for nearly six years, during who Is now in the one hundredth year i which time he has endeared himself, not only to the members of his church, but to the people generally. During his pastorate there has been erected a handsome church, one of the most Imposing structures In this part of the State. Wadesboro regrets to lost Mr. Mclver and his family very much. of his life, sturdy unil vigorous despite the many winters which have passed over his head. He Is lithe and active and makes It a custom once a year to swim Pigeon river, which flows near his home. This occasion falls on his birthday and 'Mr. Messer says he ex pects to continue the custom as long as he lives and Is physically able to do so.
