This proved so far short of the specifiatlve es pectatloit that it gave rise to the sharp est selling movement of -the 'day. Tbe accumulation of selling order over the end of the week proved to be -light and the professional party committed to the rise showed no sign, of being shaken1 in their position. The small offering during the early Part of the day were well ab sorbed, and While no disposition was shown to inaugurate an aggressive ad. vance. a number of leading stocks Mv evidence of -being supported. Miller A Co.'s Cotton Letter. New York, April 9.--Aitr opening unchanged to 6 higher on email sales, the market eased off to Saturday's closing end turned very dull. There was nothing of special intereet la the Liverpool market except that the spot demand was on a good scale. The weather news"was bullish. If there be anything In the Texas " report of needed rains, the whole belt being dry eince Saturday and no moisture In sight. Jt was an Interesting market in the early session, more or less hesi tation and caution being shown on ac count of the coming four days' holi day,, the expectation feeing for a hard enlng rather than any sagging of con sequence. In fact,' the general feeling wa that with the close on Thursday, the market 1 would 5 ublected i to, a good booat by clique. Export" of yarn and cloths' from the United Kingdom were largely in excess of last year, ana the figure had some market influence. The day' business consisted largely of switching and tip to buy were credited to the clique who are quotea as talking very bullish on the new a well aa old crop month. 8pot markets In the South were un changed, while local prices were un changed at 1L70 for middling. Influenced bv the rather better advice our market opened slightly higher this morning with May In fair demand by cllaue bro ker on the opening. After the call me marxet lapsed into dullness and the early advance wa lost on the rather iuii port estimates tor to-morrow and the absence of outside speculation. The principal feature during the morn ing wa the transferring from May to July of hedge here against cotton In the South and these operation stead ied the difference between the two months around M points. Weather re porta from the South over Sunday were on the whole favorable and the high water at Memdhls attracted lit tie attention a the stage S there is not unusual at this season. The South continued a good seller of the late options, particularly December agalnat their anticipated crop. These offerings were well received, however, by buy ing from local sources on the ground that there was a considerable short In tereet in the new crop which might be forced to cover -by bad weather over the holiday. Southern spot mar kets were reported dull. HUBBARD BROa CO. C. P. Bill A Co.' Cotton Letter. Special to The Observer. New Orleans, La., April 9. There have been no new features presented to-day, and the trading has been mall In volume, aa welt as unimport ant In character. Foreign spinner continue to abstract liberal quantities of acual cotton from the prevailing supplies, and this la the chief element of inherent strength operating as an effectual preventative against any material or permanent decline which might otherwise develop in reflection of the favorable crop accounts likely to gain circulation during this and the ensuing month.
