Boyd in the United States Court to-day signed the final judgment! , in the- noted Greensboro water-works cases in compliance with the - decrees' sent down from the Supreme Court pt the United Stat and the following are the amounts paid ' out and ' the names of the parties to whom payment js made:' B, J. Fisher estate I2M04 principal and :.tT,87B interest, tlTlU costs; A. A. Hlnkle, $8,200 principal, $1,008 interest M.70 costs; Hodglnf Pregram A Co., $1,800 principal, $517 Interest, $W.M costs; Mm. Helen O. Brown, $8,000 principal, $945 intsrest $41.(5 cost!;. Archibald H. Taylor, a slgn of the Charlotte Gorrell Jud ment, $5,000 principal. $1,812 interest. Judge Boyd order R. R. King, re ceiver of the Greensboro Water-Work Company, to reserve $5,500 as a special fund to await the suit of the Southern stock Mutual Insurance Company, which Was held up pending th other litigation, These suits have been pend ing for several years, the most notable being the one of Capt, Fisher against the water company on account of the burning of the Benbow House In the summer of 1199, the allegation being' that the loss would not have occurred If the water pressure had been suffi cient. The company had a contract t with the city to maintain at all time a pressure of 40 pounds. Quite a bril liant array of counsel appeared In the suits, which were hard fought all through the " Stat courts and then through the United States Court, the plaintiff winning all the way long. v REFUSED PLACip IN ATLANTA . prison. . . j. , &a A telegram was received here this morning from United States Marghal J. M. Mllllkan, who went to Atlanta last night, taking the 11 prisoner con victed at th present term of Federal Court here.1 The telegram stated that the authorities of the Atlanta peniten tiary refused to receive Mrs. Alice Smoot, the woman counterfeiter sen tenced to a term of one year and one, day- at hard labor and requesting that ; the mltimus be changed for her ad-t mission to the State prison at Nash-i vllle, Tenn., which prison has been d ilgnated for female, prisoners- of tt.ff united states for sucn onenees. t. mittimus was sent to Nashville by t -day's mall, that change having be: ordered by Judge Boyd.
