The special committee of the board of aldermen mude Ha report at the regular meet ing thla afternoon In the matter of the Investigation of the paving of Kim. street with vitrified brick, the report stating that the paving Is de fective, and does not comply with the contract and speclflcatlona and recom mending that no further sums be paid by the city to the contractor, the Houthern Paving at Construction Co., of Chattanooga, Tcnn., until aald pavement la done, built and linlnhed In aubatantlal compliance with said contract and specifications. The report la accompanied by a report of the expert engineer, O. ('. White, of Durham, who was employ ed by the committee and asalated la Investigating the paving work, by dig ging Into it and examining It. The engineer's report la a lengthy docu ment and explains the conditions found in the It excavation made, showing that the concrete founda tion varied from the specifications of the contract, which provides for Port land cement concrete, one, two, five volumes of cement, sand and atone and that sum of the brtek are not number on. The committee Is com posed of Mayor T. J. Murphy and Aldermen M. W. Thompson and O. Wyaong. On motion of Alderman Hunter the report was adopted and the committee continued. Simpsoh, the West Trade street restaurant keeper, was arraign-J ed In the city police court yeater 1b y morning for the aecond time on the charge of aelllng bug-Juice at his place. This indictment was brought after Clove Donaldson testified, the prevloue morning. that he had bought pint of "white-light ning' from Simpson. Simpson again pleaded nof guilty and the evidence waa heard. Recorder Shannonhouse examined several witnesses, but Donaldson waa the only one who swore that he had paid Simpson for any booce.
